this is my problem too. even when i do something she asks i do it wrong or i have to do it again. at worst she tells me to get out of the way, tries to do it, fails, gets pissed off, i go at it again, do it right and she gets mad for me doing it right.

sometimes i wonder what i get out of the relationship...other than grief and a pissed of girlfriend

The other day while my gf was here we went to the store. She just needed some things while she was staying with me and I took her. But before I knew it, I was buying a dish set. Bowls, cups, plates, more silver ware. I had enough for two people to use(hardly used them cause I used paper plates most of the time) but before I knew it I was buying a whole new set. I never go to that part of the store and all of a sudden I was over there buying stuff.

I get that too. What's worse is when my girlfriend ask me to do her a favour, like setting up the VCR to tape her show, and then complains if something goes wrong. But will she set the VCR herself. Nooo.

My significant other likes getting dirty under cars, riding motorbikes, and sticking his fingers in electrical sockets- so I let him.

It works out mighty fine, we both have the remote/dvd/vcr controls, he gets to go gliding on Saturdays, I get to post at Apolyton, watch a foreign subtitled film, or eat Vietnamese spring rolls at Prahran pool, watching the bronzed beauties by the pool.

AH - how old are the offspring? If this behaviour is a change in Mrs Horse could it be because she sees them leaving the nest in due course and being left with just you?

I have to admit that after nearly 14 years of domestic partnership I don't know the answer to your problem - only that it isn't like that for everyone. But we don't have children so that's why I ask the question I have.

Hmmm , gliding sounds good. Never got around to trying that.

The thing to do about Mrs Horse, AH, is to surprise her.

Bring some new people home; arrive with tickets for a week-end in Paris (wherever Paris is in your benighted hemisphere); book her and one of her women friends a week-end at a health farm; suggest a new kitchen and join enthusiastically in planning it; stick a new and unignorable picture on a prominent wall in the living room - anything at all as long as YOU initiate it and as long as it (briefly) disturbs the domestic rut.

And sort out a daughter or two.

Well, when its 33 degrees who needs Paris?

By the way, the loication of 'Paris' would depend upon whether you lived Top End, East Coast, West Coast or down here.

From here, 'Paris' might be a weekender in Milford Sound in New Zealand, or a trip to Hobart and Salamanca Market in Tasmania. Further north, it might be a trip to Fiji, or the Cook Islands.
Further north, it might be scuba diving in the Whitsundays, or on the Barrier Reef. From Perth or Darwin you might want to go to Ho Chi Minh City or Bali or Singapore.

Benighted? Well, its 23.00 hrs here, and I've just finished feeding possums (by hand) their fix of arrowroot biscuits and slices of orange. The french doors are open, there's a summer breeze, the cats had his dried anchovies, and the cicadas have finished their singing. The patio is radiating heat. We've had non-stop glorious sunshine today, and I had a delicious Vietnamese meal.

I almost miss the Northern Hemisphere and minus 30 temperatures. But not quite....

The Sunday before last we drove north to Stawell, then a little further on. My significant other had arranged a surprise trip to see two sets of Koori cave paintings, the Cave of Hands and the Cave of Fishes.

We saw kangaroos, wallabies, and several groups of emus, some rosellas, kookaburras and a few blue tongued lizards. We had chicken and asparagus vol au vents for lunch, chased down with some very good coffee and passion fruit cheesecake.

The bush of course smelled wonderful- that heady aromatic saponaceous perfume that you get from a mixture of eucalypts, flowering shrubs and bushes.

This Sunday I helped celebrate Chinese New Year in Richmond- gorgeous food, and some very talented entertainers from China.

Someone is always having more fun than you, Mr. Horse, in a thread like this.

Not really. Sunday is our day together, so we go and do things that two bachelors gay might like to do.

And all without any kiddie impedimenta.

I'm so fortunate to be with my partner- his parents are marvellous too. They even independently decided to put me in their will, and they look upon me as another son- not bad considering that my father in law is an ex-major in the British Army.

I'm superstitious about tempting fate - I never let on if I'm having a good life.

It's a bit like my father who though retired retains thousands of useless business papers at home - I suspect he fears if he ever cleans it up his life will be over.

Spoken like someone who hasn't experienced the wonder of the Australian bush. Nowhere has the scents of Australia- when it rains here, and the leaves are in the road, the water gets soapy, thanks to all those volatile oils in the leaves. It happened to be a beautiful summer's day too- so that helped.

When we looked at the Grampians/Gariwerd mountains they were almost blue-purple in colour thanks to the aromatic gum trees on their slopes.

The honey here is sensational- yellow box, and ironbark, thanks to the trees and bushes.

It could be worse. You could have your wife accuse you of never finishing anything because she dragged you away from it to do something else, only to then drag you away from that before you get the thing she dragged you away to do the thing she's dragging you away from to do yet something else!!!

Make any sense?

I'm very good at finishing jobs around the house - unlike my Dad who never finished a single one in his whole life. Which explains the tools lying around the house with cobwebs on them.

My main weakness is selectivity - I won't take on a DIY job unless I know I can do it.

Full PM-box? Change here!

my bf's stepdad has this problem. HIs solution is to just let it rool off his back. then again, he's a workaholic, too. my bf's mom is NEVER satified with what he does and when he does the huge list of chores she gives him, she'll find something ELSE to complain about and belittle him about.
I usually ask my boyfriend once a day...and after three days i get pissed. ANd i'm not talking fix it..i'm talking about "hey, can you take the trash out tomorrow?" i dunno, maybe i'm to womanish in that respect.
