Most Germans greatly appreciate this, and there is absolutely no need to claim we would "hate" you for it.

Saddam did not threaten your security, not a bit, don't exaggerate, please. After you were attacked by terrorists (i.e. criminals) we helped you without any delay. And every country can get the target of a terrorist attack, Germany too.
