As I have said, Serb, the Government of Canada has acknowledged what we did was wrong, and Canadians by and large are disgusted by what happened to Canadian citizens who were of the wrong race.
I do not believe the US government has done a public mia culpa, but i am sure that Americans in general who know about such things feel the same as Canadians.
In other words, here we are, flay us. Our countries and their leaders fvcked up. We were completely, and totally wrong. Our nations could not have been more wrong on this issue.
Now, it is your turn. |
So you suggest, I should say:
I'm so sorry that my grandfather, who participated in liberation of Sevastopol shot those gentle nazi soldiers and those gentle, innocent Crimean Tartars wearing nazi uniform. I'm so sorry about this horrible event. It was such a tragedy that our ancestors fought versus those brave Tartars who joined, no less honorable nazis in attempt to destroy evil Soviet Union. I feel so ashamed that Stalin ordered to transoprt them deeper into Russian territory to prevent them joining a nazi again, because it was absolutely obvious that Crimian Tartar realized their fault and would never joined nazi again. And even if they would, it would be right thing, because everyone knows that Soviets are evil freaks and everyone who fought against them are heroes.
Keep dreaming.

I have a significant problem believing that, mainly because of the problems inherent in transmitting electricity over long distances (problems that made themselves evident in the California power crises). |
It may be a news for you, but we sell sh!tloads of electricity to Europe. Those guys at least pay good bucks for it.

Hmmm. I am very positive that the Ukrainians who live around me (yes there are a lot of them who immigrated) don't speak Russian, and do not feel Russian, at all. Perhaps they are predominantly from one region or another though. I'm pretty sure at least one of them posts on these boards, so I'm sure someone will be along.
|
The Ukranian-Canadian community is a different story. I don't think they are all from one region. It's simply that the community either attracts people of certain characteristics, or makes them like that. But they are certainly not representative of the eastern half of Ukraine.

My real reason for being up at this hour though, would be to enquire who your nuclear weapons are intended for?

For a potential agressor.

They didn't deter the Yanks from paying for the boots to be put to the Red Army in Afghanistan, just as Yankee nukes did not deter Russian support for the NVA and VC.
|
Of course, they can't deter this kind of things. But they can prevent a direct agression against a nuclear power.

Are you suggesting that the rest of the world should watch out, and not try to forge ties with the Ukraine, the Baltic, and the Islamic republics? |
If you can do it without playing them against Russia, why not.

It's interesting because it is both importing and exporting electricity, and about the same amount; this implies that interanal transmission isn't very efficient, since some areas need to buy electricity when there is a clear abundance. |
They exploit the infrastructure that was created during times of SU, when it was a united country. It was simply more efficient and cheaper to transmit power from nearby power plant even if it was located on territory of neigbor republic, then to create closed within national republic power genertion/consumption system. There weren't internal borders. It was a single country.

No, Serb. We should concede that the Baltics are the victims. |
In times of USSR, they lived better than any other representatives of all remaining republics. They had a best stadard of living among all republics of SU. The people of entire country build for them there a hi-tech plants to produce electronics and alike, while keeping other dirty industries on territories of their own republics.
You know, victims and slaves usually live worse than their masters.

You've just admitted that the nukes are only for direct aggression. Here's a news-flash: the only ones allowed to get directly aggressive with North Korea is the PRC. That's because NK has nukes, the PRC has more nukes, and the PRC back NK's play.
Just so you know, Russia could save a bundle and shelve every nuke you've got. American intelligence is not that good. After all, if they though Saddam had nukes, how do you think they will interpret Russia for the next 5,000 years? |
Had Americans knew that Saddam had nukes, they would never invaded Iraq.
Look at US-NK relationship.
US: You f*ckers belong to f*ckin axis of f*cking evil.
NK: So?
US: We are in f*cking war vs. f*cking axis of f*cking evil.
NK:So?
US: Prepare yourself, we are coming!
NK: You know, we actually have a big surprise for you.
US: So?
NK: Actually it's not so big, but it creates a pretty big explosion.
US: So f*cking what?
NK: It's f*cking bomb!!!
US: Ok, let's trade then.

You are right about that. You could have also mentioned that we returned Vilnius to the Lithuanians. But still... we captured them against their will. And, if it was not for us, they could be like Finland now. |
None of them acted like Finns. They joined USSR without a single shot, but after the referendum they held about this issue. If they were so against to integration to Soviet family in 1940, why they didn't defend themselves like Finns did?

But the NK doesn't have any good hockey players, so fook 'em. Let the yanks deal with it. |
I told you- they will not.
1) NK has much capable military force than Saddam had.
2) It has much better terrain for partisan warfare.
3) Aside Iraq, it has nothing of value.

For example you can type the "Ukranian gas debt to Russia" in Google. You'll gain about 79 000 links.
Perhaps it will help you to see the picture.
