Strife Game has slowed to Molasses at Absolute Zero, so I am available to fill in, as well as willing to join a new game or four, if people are starting any up.

I've never played Online, only PBEM...how does it work?

You play by email a turn at a time..umm

ifin speed is your thingey..Ill play a game of PBEM iwht ya..I usually play many turns PER DAY

Let me know..basically play a turn it ends with a save on your desktop..
open a new email message attach the file and send it onward

No, I already PBEM...was wonderin' how Online worked. Can I assume it is fairly standard fare, and i just need the new Server.dat file in the proper folder? Also, are these games usually mano a mano, or do more than two people participate normally?

Cuaich, yes to the severs.dat, mano a mano for the most part cuz they are faster and generally continue. We have a few games with many people but it is hard to get continuation of them.

usually 4 players. more is possible, but only by replacing an AI after the game has started.

once the servers.dat file is in place you should be able to connect to the servers and game right away. a clean 1.21 install is recommended as blackice insists any altered files will cause problems. but since there are occasional problems (at least for me) with or without any altered files, well....

if you have win XP (or win 2000 Pro) however, you should be aware that you wont be able to join a game hosted by another player with XP or 2000 Pro.

if you are behind a firewall, ask blackice. in that case you might need to alter the bootserv.txt file that is somewhere close to the servers.dat in your folders.
i think you must replace the second entry in each line with the address of your proxy server. i could check it, but im not at home right now. just ask iceman.

That is weird. I do indeed run Win XP. What has Mr. Gates done this time, to prevent playing against another Win XP machine?
