The entire premise of this thread is utter ****, most of the comments from those on the side of the BBC detractors drip with blind ignorance - about the only thing of even mildly passing interest on this thread is the fact that I now know that a 'fez' is a euphemism for a foul stink in Swedish, but then considering every time Fez opens his cake-hole huge steaming dollop-loads of ripe bullshit issue forth on an all too regular basis, that hardly came as a surprise...

Perhaps some clarification is needed.

Fez (noun) = Colourful flat top hat, used by some Muslim men, especially in Turkey and Northern Africa (see picture)

is pronounced the same way as

Fes (verb, past time) = Farted

Then the other forms:

Fis (noun) = Fart

Fisa (verb, present time) = Fart

What made me connect Fez to farting was a silly joke my big brother used to tell when he was a teen:

- Two Turks, one Fez! that in spoken words can mean either " Two, Turks, one hat " or " Two Turks, one (of them) farted "

Yeah Eastenders is **** as well, so is Corrie, and Hollyoaks (though this one is a more attractive wallpaper), and Emmerdale and other crummy soap you care to mention. The whole premise of soaps is that they're shite.

Something like Shameless on C4 is much more interesting and edgy and funnier version of your basic soaps. And to be fair nothing produced by any of the UK channels at the moment comes close to stuff like The Simpsons, Six Feet Under, The West Wing or ER.

When STV bought Grampian one of the first things they looked at was whether Grampian news could be made in Glasgow.

Commercial realities means that a lot of what the BBC does is only going to be done by a public broadcaster not chasing adverts.

Agree about Hardtalk though but then it is cheap to make.
