Yahoo just went online with Fantasy Baseball!!
Welcome to the Apolyton League (#20613)!
I'll thinking another Slow Live Draft that we do on this site (Offline).
If you want a team, post here, and I'll PM you the information. I'm thinking we should go with 12 teams (but if not enough sign on, we can reduce that). Of course we need to fill them quickly, because we have a month and a half until Opening Day, and for a slow live draft we'll need a good 2-3 weeks.
We have some decisions to make.
Maximum teams in league:
4 - 20 (I'm thinking 12 would be good)
Type of scoring:
Rotisserie, Points Only, Head-to-Head (We've usually done H-2-H)
Player universe:
All baseball, NL only, AL only (ALL, definitely)
Maximum player acquisitions for entire season:
No maximum, No player acquisitions allowed, 1 - 40 (I'm thinking no Max)
Maximum trades for entire season:
No maximum, No trades allowed, 1 - 40 (I'm thinking No Max here as well)
Time managers have to protest pending trades:
League cannot reject trades, 1 - 7 day[s] (I'm thinking 1 day)
Last date to trade player:
August 1, August 8, August 15, August 22, August 29 (How's Aug 15th Sound?)
Time players are on waivers:
No waivers, 1 - 7 day[s] (2 days good?)
Can't Cut list provider?
None, Yahoo! Sports Details (I put down None, but I can go either way)
Trades reviewed by:
League Votes, Commissioner (since we are doing 1 day pending, I put down Commish, if you'd rather vote, I'd rather do more days pending on trades then)
After draft, make all unowned players:
Free Agents, Follow Waiver Rules (Waiver)
Maximum innings pitched per team:
No Maximum, 1 - 50 (I have 0 down)
Allow roster changes:
Daily - Tomorrow, Weekly on Sunday, Weekly on Monday, Weekly on Tuesday, Weekly on Wednesday, Weekly on Thursday, Weekly on Friday, Weekly on Saturday (I STRONGLY prefer Weekly... I put down for Monday)
Start League scoring on:
Tuesday, Mar 30, Wednesday, Mar 31, Thursday, Apr 1, Friday, Apr 2, Saturday, Apr 3, Sunday, Apr 4, Monday, Apr 5, Tuesday, Apr 6, Wednesday, Apr 7, Thursday, Apr 8, Friday, Apr 9, Saturday, Apr 10, Sunday, Apr 11, Monday, Apr 12 (Opening Day, obviously)
Also Positions and Roster Sizes, we have these to pick from:
Catcher (C):
First Base (1B):
Second Base (2B):
Third Base (3B):
Shortstop (SS):
Corner Infielder (CI):
Middle Infielder (MI):
Infielder (IF):
Left Fielder (LF):

Outfield (OF):
All Batters (Util):
Pitchers

I would agree with just about everything you suggest, with the exception of having HR, SLG, and TB. I think two of the three would be sufficient, and I would consider using fielding percentage instead of the third option.
I also have no preference when it comes to reviewing trades; if people do want to vote, I would recommend at least three days leeway.

Wish I could take credit for that. Stole it from Outkast.

hitters (7 positives, 3 negatives)
AB, H, R, AVG, RBI, HR, TB, BB, SO, E,
pitchers
IP, W, L, ERA, K, BB, SV, H, GIDP
As you can see, the only formulas used here are AVG and ERA. Since neither of these can be equal to infinity for any batter/ hitter, there can be no computer mistakes on calculation. OBP and SLG is both measured since walks, hits, total bases and at bats are counted.
batters now have some negatives so that Randall Simon, Strikeout Sosa and Swing for the fences Palmeiro all lose some of their value. Weak defesive players (jeter, nomar) also lose their value because of E
with pitching, WHIP is represented with BBs, Hits, and IP, instead of using the formula. i think we should repace the GIDP with something else, but im not sure what yet.

quote: I have no maximum, but I have a minimum |
Is that what the "7" referred to? I think we had 15 or 16 minimum innings pitched/week last year and that worked quite well except for the slight scare during the all-star break. But even then we all got our minimum in... Of course, we had 7 pitching slots to use last year. If we have only 6 slots someone might lose their weekly pitching stats during all-star week.
quote: I'd also prefer BBs to 2Bs (if we have 2Bs then why not 3Bs... all that is covered by TBs, no?). |
Not enough triples per week to bother with, but I like doubles because it rewards faster runners and gap hitters who don't hit alot of homers. But if you want to add BB's to increase batting categories in addition to doubles, that's cool with me. It kind of sucks having a Barry Bonds who gets walked all the time...
LoA - I think you must have made a mistake reading the stats last year, I don't remember any problem with infinity and composite stats and I was paying attention. I suppose we could avoid composite stats, at least as much as possible. We could have Hits allowed, BB's and K's instead of WHIP, K/BB, and K/9 inn.
What do you think Imran? Should we try to avoid composite pitching stats?
I'll vote for these stats:
Runs (R)
Hits (H)
Doubles (2B)
Home Runs (HR)
Runs Batted In (RBI)
Stolen Bases (SB)
Strikeouts (K)
Walks (BB)
Total Bases (TB)
Batting Average (AVG)
On-base + Slugging Percentage (OPS)
Pitchers
Wins (W)
Losses (L)
Saves (SV)
Strikeouts (K)
Walks (BB)
Holds (HLD)
Earned Run Average (ERA)
Hits allowed
Total Bases Allowed (TB)
That's 11 batting and 9 pitching. Am I missing any good stats there?

I think it would be good to have an even number of pitching and hitting stats, but it doesn't matter too much to me as long as there aren't more than 16 or 17 catagories.
Also min innings pitched should probably be raised a little higher, in one week 3 or 4 relievers could easily thrown 7 innings. 15 would prevent this 'strategy' better and wouldn't really affect anyone who plays without this 'strategy'.
