Rah, there were several threads where it came up actually. Essentially Spike is an old nickname from my undergrad days, and the Dr was added then to make it unique online, since Spike was never available even then as a nick.

Nowadays no one calls me that, so I thought it was time to update. I'm going to try this for a while and see how it goes.
