Al Qaeda calls a truce Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Also posted in a different thread, in a different context:

CAIRO (Reuters) - A group claiming to have links with al Qaeda said on Wednesday it was calling a truce in its Spanish operations to see if the new Madrid government would withdraw its troops from Iraq, a pan-Arab newspaper said.

In a statement sent to the Arabic language daily al-Hayat, the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings that killed 201 people, also urged its European units to stop all operations.

It seems that Spain's recent actions have pulled Europe of of Al Qaeda's target list.

And I can't say I'm unhappy about this news...not one bit.

No no this is brilliant tactics from AQ. This way they can now attack next European country and call truce when they pull out, the rest will follow except the UK. Now Europeans say to Americans 'pull out and they call you truce too' which would be BS.

AQ hates the US and hates the UK they'll never stop no matter what they do. With this, they just try to turn friends against each other. Good strategy.

No, because the group also called for an end to ALL european operations. Not just the ones in Spain.

I call BS on this anyway. Why would they not target UK?
This is just AQ playing the good cop and the bad cop and we're all suspected.

You know this is a good call from their part. They're taking the initiative here. We can't let them have the initiative. I say we chase them to the end of the world.

Got spare money?

This truce is bullshit, even if an influential group issued it (which is a big if already).

They are buying time to regroup and to focus their efforts on other targets. Accepting this truce has no chance whatsoever to weaken them, which should be the common objective of all countries.

to you for supporting it.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

There is a word called Hudna in Arabic. Speak to our Israelis about it. The Hamas pledged a Hudna with Israel, and the cease-fire did last for some time. During this time, the Hamas could regroup, and it struck exactly where and when it wanted after that.

IIUC, the Hudna was a move used by Mohammed in his conquests to fool the enemy in a false sense of safety. I would never trust Muslim extremists with their truces, given from whom they are inspired

I love how some Euros find ways to blame the US, even when the same terrorist groups attack them.

It's rather uncanny, and not unlike certain fruit-loving computer users I know.

I don't need to accept this truce, they called it, with the only condition being Spain's withdrawl (which they are doing anyways) of it's forces from Iraq. And we Europeans never supported the war in Iraq to begin with, and should withdraw our troops regardless of what Al Qaeda says. This is just a very welcome added bonus.

[O]ther recent targets of Islamic militants have been Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, not one of which supported the war or sent troops into Iraq in the afterwar. Al Qaeda's declaration of jihad had, as its first demand, the withdrawal of American troops from Saudi Arabia. Osama bin Laden does not seem to have noticed, but the troops are gone—yet the jihad continues.

WE EUROPEANS now equal Germans and French I guess... See what the EU has done! Italy was a big supporter, as was Spain and Poland, as well as other powerhouses. Regardless of whether you support the US in Iraq, the US' war on terror, etc... you are still suseptible to the crimes of terrorist who hate the western world and the western way of life. As long as you are a christian you are their enemy. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you can't start saving yourselves.

Not to mention providing substantial amounts of oil to the US War Machine.

All Muslim nations. Let the Muslim's deal with their own affairs. You didn't see Muslims jumping in to stop the northern ireland clashed between the protestants and catholics, so why should we step in when various muslim sects clash?

70+% of the Spaniards and Italians were AGAINST the war in Iraq. So yes, we Europeans were against it. Not just the French and the Germans, but also the Italians, Spanish, Belgians, Dutch, etc, etc, etc. We didn't want the war. Yes. WE.
