Like the title says. It would be nice to gather together all the wisdom from the thousands of threads and games of SMAC/X on this forum and put it all together into a sticky for future posters to read, and for our own reference.
I propose we make a guide that assumes a basic knowledge of the game, and a certain familiarity with Vel's guide.
If people send me entries for the Guide, I can edit everything together and put it into one thread, which can then be stickied.
I'm not asking for much, basically if people want to dig up old threads and posts, and copy+paste the best bits into readable articles, I can do the rest. It will be a copy+paste marathon, but the advantage of having all this stuff together would be great.
I'm going to start by pointing some fingers.
Ogie,
Buster
Flubber,
Kody,
Method.
- you all have definitely have posted some stuff that needs to be recorded.
So... what I'm saying is who's interested in this project? It can be ongoing, but since the main effort is just finding the posts and copying them, in return for which your ideas and tactics will be recorded for ever, I'm sure somebody must be interested.
Let's make the second chapter to Vel's guide, the strategies that will make you into an elite SMAC player

Well, I was looking through some old posts, and the stuff on CGN, and I think some of the things you've posted are much more advanced than the CGN stuff, which deals with quite broad, but shallow, subjects.
I was looking for stuff with hard numerical comparisons, where its is proven, for example, that its always better to get BioGen before beelining for IA, or something of that kind.
The reason I'm asking people to chip in, is that they know better than me what they actually wrote, and perhaps where to find it.
I'm thinking about stuff like "Sikander Spacing" "Ogie's Morgan Turn-by-turn" "Speed Trancend" "B-Drones explained" "The Proper Use of Crawlers" "All specialists" "The Perfect PopBoom" - much more indepth looks at certain key areas, with concrete "This is best, this is not" arguments...
What do you say?

I'm something of a newb perhaps, but I find that most of the available strategy material tends to concentrate on the early game. Ok, the early game often moulds the outcome of the whole deal, but I'm surprised that I've never seen a serious analysis of strategy post choppers/fusion/PBs for multiplayer play. In SP fine, chop 'n' drop 'til the cows come home, but human opponents can usually be relied upon to build AAA troops, interceptors & airports in sufficient numbers to make this a painful approach for the attacker. Ok, first to PBs might just bomb everyone back to the stone-age, but what if they fail to do so before ODPs turn up (they're only ten techs away - not long if factions are sharing their research)?
Probably all this has been chewed over countless times and I've missed the posts; if so, let's paste 'em into Jamski's Vel ch. 2; if not, I'd love to see some views.
Cheers,
Starfish

Ouro - try the 'At long last' thread at no. 2 in this forum - I think there are links in there.
As for the advanced guide, I'm happy to try and help, but how shall we organise it? And what shall we classify as advanced? Perhaps topics like:
Ecodamage Management
Combat post Doc Air
Tech beelining post IA
The metagame
PBEM/multiplayer strategies
...and many, many more?

The one Googlie posted is for SMAX. This one is for SMAC. I'm not sure if this was simply 'copied' into the Googlie's link and had SMAX information added, although? I haven't really sat down and read those yet, I admit. It's a shame I know.

EDIT: I quickly scanned Googlie's link and it seems that there's no updates on landmarks introduced to the game via SMAX. An oversight? It doesn't make this guide any less excellent nevertheless.
