Having eaten GM food for years (used to live in the States) I can safely say that it has no harmful side-effects. Except for being directly responsible for my self-delusional narcissim. But I'm getting help for that.

Now bow before me.

Actually I think that GM is a good thing, but there are still too many outstanding questions involved - when you consider the huge profits concerned, the potential for corner cutting etc are massive...

Big business just cannot be trusted to keep things safe when chasing profit - this has been proved time and time again.

Personally I'd rather countries like the US to remain as a giant open air lab for the rest of us in case there are any unpleasant side effects.

It is all about choice - I would like to keep that choice thank you. No GM!

the only way it'd fail is if some massive hysteria got out about mad carrot disease or something.

The were some basis for being against GM foods years back, when we didn't know if there were any negative consequences in consuming them. Now that the Americans have already tested the stuff for the rest of the globe, there is no reason to keep non-GM agricultural products as 'worse'. Quite frankly, it seems that this ridicolous anti-GM attitude I've seen is simply a new way of next-generation new-age hippies to express their superiority by buying and supporting food which is harder to produce.

Did I say it would be a failure? When the government forbids milk producers from labeling their milk as BgH free because that implies there's something wrong with BgH you have to wonder. If it's not a problem, label it and let the American people decide. If you have to hide something from us, maybe it's not so great. I don't really like being experiemented on without my permission.

Anyway, haven't you wondered why there is so much growth in organic foods?

I think the only thing hysterical on this thread are the comments from some of the pro GM side...

I said before - I SUPPORT THE IDEA OF GM!

Just not the way it is being foisted upon us without any apparent choice or input from the public.

And yes, the labeling issue is very pertinent - the reason why I am so against the way GM is being promoted is that it is shrouded in secrecy, what do these companies have to hide!!?

I mean it's all very well being brainlessly gullible and getting spoonfed what the govt tells you without questioning it, but then certain govts I know were adamant about the huge stockpiles of WMD they knew they were going to find in Iraq...
