If she is convinced that it's not God but Dissident who told her to kill her sons, would she do it? Doubtful. Therefore, religion must play a part in this.

I just don't get why people are so hard on religion.

I fail to see how religion caused this woman to kill her kids.

Most of my relatives are religious. When you insult religious people you insult all my relatives.

I don't understand why athiests won't let people be religious and worship whomever they please.

i wasn't making judgement on religion, i was merely pointing out that people who are crazy often have it also run in the family. we don't need that many crazy people; therefore, whether driven by religion or insanity, she did, in a dark, cynical way, do us all a favor.

Of course a jury should decide. No one has ever been able to say anything very helpful about the idea of sanity. The only conceivable way to judge this woman is by reference to whatever emotions she and her story arouse.

It is hard to imagine that a jury would judge her harshly.

I doubt any religion worthy of the name would either.

This thread itself is a pretty revolting troll, but I suddenly realized that you're all quite right about Christianity and "no true scotsman." It's one of the central tenets of the Christian faith that "there is no man that liveth and sinneth not," that being the whole reason Christ was incarnated in the first place.

To say one is a Christian is to declare an aspiration, not an innate nature-much as many "pacifists" might occasionally snap and smack somebody who really annoys them, or at least feel like doing so. Or like many recovering alcoholics have relapses. To be a Christian is only something to be proud of insofar as you are at least trying to solve your problem instead of wallowing in it like a pig in mud. The only person who totally exemplifies Christian behavior is Christ himself.

Any real Christian would know that God would not ask them to do such a thing. No sane Christian would ever believe that God would order such a thing. For one, the tale of Abraham's test is pretty much universally taught.

God stops Abraham, its just a test yuk yuk, but god does tell him to do it, and he was prepared to do so.
