	Condi Rice testifies before 9-11 commission Support Apolyton

I watched Dr. Rice testify before the commission this morning. I thought she did quite well. She is a very smart woman.

The funniest part was probably when Kerrey mistook her for Clarke. From the transcript:

Confusing a name? It's quite common. He was probably thinking about Clarke just before he said the statement. Happens all the time. I frequently call my roommate by my brother's name, though they bear no physical or mental resemblance.

Condie came off better than I thought she would, in the parts I saw.

Actually, she's probably the best person the Admin could've sent out. Midway through, Cheney would have had a heart attack, Bush would've changed the topic to misrememberings of Texas quotes, and any other member would have let some serious sh!t slip. But Condie seemed to handle it alright -- unless I turned off the TV right before something important.

And the name confusing thing? Hell, I do it all the time, Ag.

If you read the trascript, it seems like Kerrey makes the mistake several times. He must have really been thinking about Clarke.

Form the parts I saw, I can't help but think she's been set-up, in that they advised her to point the finger as much as possible to the intelligense gathering offices.
Who now of course are going to retaliate. I don't expect to see her back even if Bush2 does.
Scapegoat...pawn..call it what you want, but that's the feeling I got throughout.

As for the name calling mistake, my grandmother, heck even my mother often calls me by a different (usually one of my uncles ) name.

You would. Of course you cut off her explination that it was based on historical data (ie, stuff from the Clinton years) and had no specfic informaiton. Then again, so did the partisan commission Democrat. Rice started to explain it, and the commission Democrat started to cut her off, saying all he wanted to know was the name, he didn't want to hear the explination. . And people thought the Republicans on the commission were going to be partisan .

Yep, a bunch of notes saying a terrorist wacko was planning an attack on the US... going on for years and years. Would you have prefered the Patriot Act passed in early 2001? Yeah, I'm sure that would have gone down well. Hell, the cries over civil liberties is great AFTER 9/11. Just a bunch of grasping at straws.

BTW, in order to train at the flight schools that the hijackers trained at, you need STATE DEPARTMENT clearance.

And apparently two State Departments (Clinton and Bush) believed that without more evidence, not allowing people with simply Arabic sounding names to fly was a violation of civil rights.

Could Kerry do better? I'm not sure. I'm not a fan of him. But he's going to cruise into the White House come November. I'd rather have a presidential candidate who I am confident can defend America. But Kerry would have to REALLY be a moron to be worse than Bush.
