The teammate idea is a good one, but I'd prefer to see us model our PBEM play to match this tournament fit, especially if we can have it be a "two round" game, to give us better tactical experience in having an "elimination" round.
If we get 10-12 people we break in half and allow the 3 civs on each map that survive to move into the final map.
If we get more than that, we have 3 (or 4) games and allow the 2 civs that survive to advance.

This makes sense - modelling the games after the actual C3C IDG. I say we get 2 more players and then start - randonly selected - three 5-player games, using the same civs as this one, and the same map settings, and the same 3-civ survival objective. Given the speed of PBEM's, we do not have to worry about these games overtaking the IDG.
So, we can then decide what we want to run when these three are done. Or we could say only two civs survive and those 6 go onto the finals.
HOWEVER - given that the intent is to study the dynamics of the 3-civ survival format, I think running 3 games based on the same criteria will be a very useful - and fun - experiment.

We now have 16 players, so I suggest we have 2 games of 5 and 1 game of 6 (or 7, or 8, if more people sign up).
So, to get this show on the road... everyone post here which of the two you'd prefer to be in (5-player game or 6+) and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices for civilization. Let's just do first come, first serve in both cases, splitting people in to different games by conflicting civ choices and/or game choice, and otherwise assigning people randomly. Sound good?
Edit: My choices (To be fair, I'll put myself last in order, assuming I'm sorting this )
1. Mayans
2. Sumerians
3. Iroquois
Preference: 5-player

If you need anyone else, I'll do it.
My choice:
1) Maya
2) Carthage
3) Eygpt
I'm GMT, though, so if that's a problem, just tell me
EDIT: Damn, too late. Just me luck to be away while you organise this.
