quote: What is ridiculous is that some people are assuming that Bush and Cheney are appearing together for some inapropriate alterior motive, so that they can "get their stories straight". There is nothing wrong with the President and the Vice President testifying together. |
There's a huge problem with it, stemming largely from the administration's abysmal handling of the 9/11 commission in general. First they oppose its creation, then they deny it access to documents, then they deny access to Rice, and now Bush and Cheney appear together. Taken together, the combination of these stances, even if each is distinct and has its own rationale, looks like one huge CYA. If anyone thinks that Bush and Cheney can testify without a serious perception problem, they are kidding themselves. This administration, at the very least, is not considering the need to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
