Possible Gaian mottos:
Walk with Planet, or we’ll walk on you
Learn to love the worm
Trees are for hugging, guns are for shooting
This pacifist can shoot straight
Planet is on our side
PlanetVoice wants to have a little chat with you
You won’t like me when I’m angry
Let me demonstrate ‘worm rush’
Ouro - if you liked the anthologies then I should get my butt in gear. There are two others that are finished (but unposted), and one more in the works. Conversations was ~200 pages long in Word; it was the first anthology I posted. I'll check to see what is posted here on Apoloton. BTW - I'm almost always the Gaians in the anthologies, but have also role played Zak, Morgan, and now The Hive.
A side note on PBEM: it is my observation that PBEM’s are generally bloody minded since SMAX offers no real penalties for using every form of atrocities and ‘evil’ act known to humanity (or invented by the game designers). As such, I’ve typically shied away from them since a role-played faction like the PKs or Gaians would always have to compromise their principles, and really ‘lose’ in the process. The PBEMs I’ve done have been for role-playing purposes. ‘Winning’ was secondary.

This may seem like an odd question, but why does having 6 folks express interest in playing mean "no one is interested in our faction"?
Are there minimum numbers of folks needed for a Democracy game?
Again, I don't any clear idea how a DG works, much less how many people it takes to run a faction. Can someone illuminate the subject a bit?

Hydro:
A faction can be run with as few as 1 member (in this current game, for several turns only Archaic played the UoP turn and there was no discussion in their private forum)
Above that number, the various teams had different strategies.
at the other end, some polled everything
eg What techs to research, units to build, where to place bases, where to move units etc etc
in-between, some had the designated turn player (and some rotated this position, some voted on it) develop turnmove recommendations, and others developed concensus turn orders for the player to follow.
Most prepped a midturn.sav for the team to look at and comment on - it still wasn't too late to tweak minor things, but of course by then the units had been moved to their new positions
All team members had the password, and their turn was posted in the 'poly thread for all to download and open. I policed (as far as I could) teams not "playing ahead" - ie different team members moving units in different directions to explore the map, advance scout the opposition, etc etc - there was only one instance of that happening when a new member joined a faction and didn't know the rule (as far as i am aware of, anyway)
The democracy part of the name of the game lies in the most prevalent way of developing concensus - by polling
As we move towards this new iteration of the game, some teams are talking of experimenting with an even greater level of democracy - in Morgan, we are talking about team members being base governors, managing their base production in the context of a strategic plan - the Spartans are talking about team members being given uniquely-named units that they will control (or at least give movement orders for)
And all of it has spawned some great role-playing. I don't know if you have visited the general threads much - for PRAVDA, the Hive newspaper or the CyCon's 3D (Digital Data Download) - you need to set the browser for "the last year" and get to page 6 and 7 or so to find them
Also, Kody did some great cartoons in the "Snoopy" format that are worth visiting
Cheers
G.

Hydro, we have six members, but other factions have twice as many players, not to mention that most of us are newbies, and you are not even familiar with ACDG. However Hydro, I have offered to explain you every detail of ACDG on our private fourm, which you seem to be intentionally avoiding, since you haven`t appeared there yet, but I know you are aware of it. I am asking again, why are you avoiding it? It is strange that you would intentionally avoid it, but this just seems to be the case. Could you please explain why?
It was mentioned in the early stages that there should be a minimum number of players for each faction to see if it can run so that PUT incident doesn`t appear. This was never approved, but neither disapproved. I am afraid that Jamski will try to pull that to eject us from game.
Now to explain the "PWN stunt". It was not originally intented so. In the time when we had three members Tassadar convinced us that we should dissolve faction since all good players have already joined others, and join Morgan or Angels (what was it? Lauri do you remember?), and he was pretty convincing. Later, I ve decided to wait for a while longer, and tried to explain this as a PWn stunt (will someone please explain me what PWN means? ).
This is also result of same thought. This is why I wanted to make sure that all members realise that we are probably going to be targeted for agression, since we are considered to be an easy play. This is not a stunt to draw attention, since everybody has already chosen it`s faction, and whom would I recruit? When other members laugh at our member list number (you know who they are). .
Geo, whom did I "blatantly alienate"? Have I insulted or attacked anyone on this forum? Well if you think that I insult people here on forum, then it is better I leave. Thank you for your hospitality.

I didn’t mean to be hostile or difficult. Perhaps a few words would explain.
Back when I was furiously involved with the Spartan Chronicles (a SMAX fiction anthology from way back in ~2000) there were a few PM (ICU? I forget now), IM and similar efforts. I found them to be extremely annoying and frustrating and, after a dozen tries, removed the software. Little things irked me, like communication with no capitalization, sentence fragments, abruptly severed connections, and a blizzard of acronyms I couldn’t decipher. It was also difficult to coordinate who-would-be-where-when, especially with people living all over the globe. I am willing to try again but don’t really want to just hang around a chat room (I can honestly say I’ve never done that, anyway). I’m **ahem** a little too old for that, and have neither the patience nor the time. This is absolutely no reflection on anyone on the Gaian team, only an explanation of my own quirks; I’m willing to be a team player. If I’ve offended anyone please accept my apologies.
That said, and with the rest of the team’s permission, I’d like to volunteer to be the Gaian Historian (or whatever title is appropriate). Putting out a New Planet News newsletter, or similar vehicle, sound like a lot of fun, especially if a bit of creative license is allowed. That fits into the role playing aspect, which is what draws me to this (after my old friend Googlie tipped me off and gave me a heads up and an invite).
