PBEM - WW II - sid level against japan-AI Got spare money?

the game is full, no further players can join here

this another spinoff from the thread epic game PBEM with multi-turn-sessions

it was ChrisiusMaximus's idea to play the "Pacific World War II Scenario" (*) together united against japan at sid level
(*) with modified rules, eg. different playable civs, different playing sequence, difficulty set to sid, etc.

players are, in order of approximate playing time:

playertimezonepreffered playtimeemailother
sabrewolfGMT +1GMT: ~23:00±1hrsabrewolf at freesurf dot chthe orange (netherlands)
RedboyGMT -6?before smellymummywswanson AT telus DOT netstars and stripes (united states)
smellymummyGMT -8GMT: ~04:00±3hrssm at inethighway dot comred star and hammer (china)
ChrisiusMaximusGMTGMT: ~18:00±1hrChrisBennett8 AT aol DOT comthe "sun-never-sets" (commonwealth)
SID AI---kamikaze (japan)

hope we can get a turn through per day... but no one will get nuked if it takes longer...

don't forget: every turn we wait, the more units japan can build! as sid everything costs 40% and unit support is nearly endless!

isn't the game already set for coalition victory?

let's help each other on research. sounds good?

whoevers got the most beakers, go for the most expensive branch, and so on.

we should also do the same with military and I propose we determine 3 general areas for military activity. either for defense or in offense.

1- clear any japanese presence from borneo/singapore and the south china sea

2- capture saigon, or at the very least take out the oil there

3- capture Palau

ah yes, i didn't even see it
it looks like my netherlands is a lot weaker because you can't even play them in the usual MP scenario

your ideas sound good. i currently can't do any research as i'm in anarchy (monarchy sucks... i'm going for democracy). i'll be back in 6 turns. imho the strongest beakerer should go for armored tactics and others for different stuff... just not divine wind as only japan can build units (kamikaze) then.

1) why drive them out of borneo/singapore? i can't see any japanese units or cities there except 1 sub.

2) imho that's the most important to get rid off.

3) that's the only japanese city within my reach

general thoughts:
a) islands will be friggin' hard to get, as they're mostly 2-tiled. the AI will have lots of units covering both tiles. probably excessive bombardment and a marine army are the key
b) smellymummy, i don't envy you for china. japan has a good railroad network (maybe bombard away some connecting tiles?) and the units will be pouring at you from beginning on. i hope you can hold on to your cities long enough for us to help you (from the back side?). maybe you could donate everyone a smallish city (newly built ones?) so we can rush some defenders there?
c) i have no iron! can someone give this to me? i can only offer maps and spices. you all have everything else i could give

no settlers in this scenario sabre, and you should have stuck with monarchy!!

In this scenario its important to build units fast from the off, then when Jap starts to slow you can begin to plan in some city improvements.

Smelly, focus on infantry and lots of them for China, you will be hit hard at first, very hard. In fact smelly dont bother with tech for first 5 or 6 turns, you will need the gold to build units with. ASlso your planes will mostly get shot out of the sky so Artillery are your best bombard unit to go with, and good luck.

sabre you really should not have changed government, if Jap comes for you youre in big trouble!!

Maybe a restart would be in order

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

CM: fortunatly, there's no direct land passage from jap cities. and as netherlands i'm without planes and tanks and hardly any ships

i was thinking of staying at monarchy until i saw that democracy has no war weariness (neither has republic). i just didn't know it would take 6 turns

restart? too late now, i guess... (i already started 3 times, always doing something wrong, eg. wrong playing sequence and wrong player names )

edit: if anyone finds a bug or problem, then we can consider restarting ... but if so, how about giving all civs democracy?

no restarts plz. civs get into blunders, and this is what happened.

and i understand, I'll just work on producing units. I figure I could act as a place for japan to send units at, while you guys kick its rear.

as for 1), right theres no units "yet", although if indochina is a main goal, I think japan will come, probably for the oil. best to be ready? 1) is more like a defensive strategic goal

3) the USA should get this island ASAP

i think it's a sound plan, although i'd love to read you're ideas too.

should we add some battle reports / general info to our turns? I think we should.. for anything, just to remember what we're doing

redboy, did you get a chance to nail any jap ships, or are the carriers already heading back?

as for myself, the chinese don't seem to be in that much trouble, yet! silks gifted to everyone, and coal to netherlands. I'll have another source of iron to give soon.

my main northern force is poised to hit kaifeng hard with artillery and air support, and I have a smaller regiment set to cut off nanking from the supply route. to the south, my Flying Tigers destroyed a road on rubber, leaving only a RR tile that links indochina to the rest of Japan.

otherwise, I'm fortifying the best I can in south china

could it be possible to get some gifts of technology and money?

China needs it

Friends Allies!!

We are at war, and facing a truly deadly foe. We in the Commonwealth have switched our research to Advanced flight, as we feel the long range bombers will be of great use in the battles ahead.

quite a task to switch production this turn, making sure we have plenty of barracks towns to churn out veteran reinforcements, so to a programme of Airports is being built in the mainland of Australia.

Be aware our Brothers in the Netherlands, Jap has Marines already, and can and will launch amphibious attacks on your island colonies!! You know our feelings on disolving your government at this stage, and we would expect to see your holdings come under fire by air sea and even land! Good luck Sir you will need it, only this month Jap has landed a force of 3 paratroopers outside one of our towns, threatening to cut off singapore. We have sent you a supply of Iron.

China we commend you and pray for your people in the coming struggle, we witnessed the Jap attack and destroy one of your Guerilla units operating in commonwealth territory, though you will be proud to know they wasted one Infantry unit in their efforts. Only killing your brave troops with a tank assault on their dug in positions. Your boys held fast and died with honour. We will pass any research we get imediately to your people, though we too have had to turn down our tech spending a little to help get our economy on track.

We managed to seek and destroy a Jap sub lurking off the Singapore coast and our brave Airmen destroyed the oil fields near Saigon. For now Jap has no oil, and will likely be seeking to invade where this resource can be found. It is imperative that we are successful in denying access to oil from Jap at all costs!

America, welcome to the war, please pass on our deepest condolences to the families of all your personal killed or injured in the attack on Pearl Harbour. Be assured that the Commonwealth will fight shoulder to Shoulder with you to defeat this common foe. If America can share in any way its vast wealth with us we would be able to put those resources to good use, namely gold.

Here ends our report, God bless and protect you all in the month ahead.

Actually as of the end of this turn all but one Jap Carrier, one Cruiser, and a destroyer, is sunk. I lost too many capital ships doing it, but at least we'll never see them again. Still waiting for amphibius warfair to start cranking out marines to help you blokes out. My plan is simple- Island hop all the way to japan. I am trying to hold the last island I have in the south pacific, but I dont think I can do it. At least for long the japs have landed a small force, but the naval task force destroyed the transport and escorts. Good luck to you all and may god be with us.

and about the gold, I am afraid I splurged my savings on an airport on midway to bring up reinforcements for the island hoping. first attack on kaifeng went by great. destroyed the newest conscripted defense units, the veteran ones and got the japanese army (of one tank) down to 1 hp. nanking on the other hand I only managed to pillage and damage units, at the cost of a conscript infantry

more units have made it to the south front, and i'm fortifying mainly near the hanoi area. I've also have 2 infantry and 1 guerilla on their way to pillage indochina

also coming up in february 1942, two new bombers and 4 fresh veteran MG battlions.

At last turn sent, sorry for the delays Ivee had real problems receiving email with hotmail. Saves have been turning up days late!

Anyway my aol addy is working fine so please send all save etc there for now, thanks.

Not a great lot to report, managed to kill two Jap paratroopers and badly injure the third, also badly damaged a Jap BB, offshore of Saigon, and its DD escort slightly damaged. Jap did not move them at the turn end as far as I can tell so anyone who has assets in that area will likely be able to bag a BB and a DD.

Jap attacked our closest city to him on the Singapore paninsular, but suffered a badly mauled Nippon inf and lost a light tank for his efforts, with no losses to the garrison.

we continue to build up our economy and infrastructure in Australia, Airports are key to our success in reinforcing our many outposts.

dear allies!

because of some idiot who started a revolution because he thought it was a good time to get rid of our king right now, the country has fallen into anarchy. no one is building anything, the officers are getting drunk and not teaching new recruits and the workers are working half heartedly!

at least all regional warlords and self-proclaimed leaders have agreed to let the public vote democratically, but it's still going to take 4 months until the president and parliament is in power.

fortunatly, our allies have sent us luxuries and natural resources!

many of our soldiers are eagerly awaiting combat! they've heard of friends being killed by ze evil germanz back in europe and want to give revenge by attacking an evil ally of the nazis: the chinese-women-raping-raw-fish-eaters called japanese. but the former leaders of the netherlands weren't prepared! they had sent all those soldiers to the tropical islands in oceania but forgot to give the soldiers means to transport themselves to the location where the action takes place. only a single transport ship was dispatched but was parked in a city far away from the japanese. it will take 2 more months until the first dutchmen can go and retake the island our allies from the commonwealth had lost to the japanese paratroopers.

the only fighting that took place was 1 (!) cruiser ship that tried to sink a japanese ship but got sunk to the bottom of the indochinese sea. other battleships and submarines have placed themselves to take out rogue japanese ships but the numbers are pityful! no wonder the old leaders were overthrown! they should have listened to the generals!

as soon as our people get out into democracy, we shall rush-build lots of transport ships and send troops as defence to drive the japanese from the island! meanwhile the researchers will then probably concentrate on theoretical physics as this can lead to a potential change in the war: the invention of the so called fission bomb which promises to be very effective! but our researchers are flexible. if our allies prefer us to invent something else, the dutch will comply. it's been embarrassing enough, how useless we have been so far so we will to anything to make our friends less unhappy!

china suffered minor casualties at kaifeng. japanese are reinforcing the city with drafts, and my initial momentum of attack is now lost. I'll be reinforcing with more artillery and bombers asap. If we can manage to kill a few million people, at least the japanese won't be able to draft anymore

otherwise things we're quite calm in feb. no visible sign of any attacks, and that is good

Battle for the Skies Increase Your PM Length

Dear Allies:

The Commonwealth saw much varied action this month, our pilots have been slugging it out with with Jap in the skies over the sea in the Saigon/Singapore theatre.

Well we managed to shoot down three Zero's we took heavy losses also, namely 1 Bomber wing and three fighter squadrons. These losses will be a long time being replaced, as our focus at this time is the rush building of Airports and the reinforcing of our far flung colonies with veteran trained Anzac units.

On land we had mixed results too, we killed outright a Jap paratroop regiment that had survived in the hills during the last month, but lost one green anzac unit to a redline Jap Nippon inf brigade. We did however destroy said Jap unit with a second Infantry charge with fresh troops flown into Singapore last month. Again though the wily Japs countered at the end of the month and took out the victorious troops!

In a further move High command ordered the 6th & 9th Artillery batteries to move behind enemy lines, and dig in on hill 48 NNW of Bangkok, with the intent of shelling the Jap held stronghold and the surrounding infrastructure next month. We also sent in 2 Vet Anzac brigades and a MG Battallion from the Rangoon Garrison to form a defensive screen around the emplaced guns.

Our Naval elements faired much better, though with some help with the survivng air units at Singapore. You may remember we reported the position of three Jap naval units last month, well to our surprise Jap stayed put leaving these already damaged vessels at our mercy.

As stated some of our flyboys got through and made hits on these Jap boats, leaving their DD Hayashio listing heavily to Portside, an irresistable target for our BB Prince of Wales, whose guns made short work of sending her to the bottom, then with an outstading sweeping manouvre the DD Tenedos rammed and punctured a massive hole in the side of the Jap BB Kongo, who went down like a stone in seconds. Needless to say our DD was badly damaged in this action and will need time in drydock before seeing further action, but her commander Captain Staines has been recomended to the Admiralty for promotion.

Further naval action saw our submariners getting in on the action, after BB Repulse blasted the Jap transport, with a full spread the SS Storm went in for the kill. Needless to say her torpedoes swam true and the transport went down fast. And finally our DD Encounter made a dash to Kudat and succesfully sunk a further Jap transport.

I would imagine several high ranking Jap Naval officers will be expected to fall on their swords after this fiasco

Commonwealth out!

Got spare money?

nope, i've got no problem with happiness thanks to 2 unconnected luxuries (which are connected now) and a gift from one of you. and except iron (which someone else gave me ) i had all resources.

what sucks is the position (no land bridge to the mainland) and the lack of transport capacity. however, i just found out that my cruisers can carry 1 unit... interesting.

CM, thanks for your offer, but the only thing you can give me is a strong whack on the head for going into revolution (i completely forgot it's only 40 turns )...

The Japanese Fleet that cowardly attacked Pearl Harbour.... has been destroyed. All remaining elements have been sunk in the battle of midway with light losses to several Wildcat Squadrons.
