But the point really is that this is bad -- period. I used the "cutting off one ball compared to two balls" as an allegory in that whether you get one cut off or both, it does not matter -- it's still bad.

Of course it is bad. It is horrible. Nobody in their right mind would say otherwise or even attempt to justify what happened.

Morally it is reprehensible.

Practically it is counterproductive.

The point is as was said earlier that one group of dumbasses doesn't mean the entire Army is out doing this kind of thing.

As I understand it, the US has now admitted to 2 murders of Iraqis in custody. One was by a soldier who was court martialled and jailed.

The other was by a "private contractor working for the CIA". Presumably they got a medal.

So, as a lefty (compared to some around here) I'm NOT blaming the soldiers.

I'm blaming the spooks.

Pardon my French, but are you folk out of your f'ing minds?? Most of what has been reported so far is on a par with very common fraternity hazing during rush. Only the most blind partisans can compare this to secret, mass graves in the tens of thousands.

That said, the idiots who did these things SHOULD be thrown under the jail for a very, very long time. An alternative might be to form them up, arm them with bunches of flowers, and send them to al Sadr. At the least, that will wipe those stupid grins from their faces.

Don't paint everyone with the same brush. Kerry and Fonda tried that in the 70's. It is just as wrong today. If you just have to flame somebody, please don't direct it at Oerdin.

Our parents got a call from Oerdin this morning. All is well for him, he said it was "quiet". He was in a place called al-Kut, not Najaf... Sadly, they were out, so it was a message on the machine... Wanted to pass it along, however. I will try to keep the info comming, as I get it... Don't know about the internet connection where is is, or how long he will be there...

Had a call from Oerdin about 20 minutes ago. He is still in al-Kut, and quite happy to be there. Has not heard a moarter round or been shot at in 2 weeks! He wanted you all to know he is keeping notes on his lap top, for posting when he gets internet access. Says he can barely get supplies from the amry in al-Kut, much less mail either in comming or out going. al-Kut is 40 -45 miles north - north west of Najaf and most people are Sadr supporters, but have not taken up arms. He is in an old air force base that was abandoned after the Iran-Iraq war. All in all, he sounded good, although the connection on the satalite phone was a little shakey...


More next time I hear anything....
