Not a bad idea. I have not read all the posts, so please excuse me if this has already been asked and answered.
Why pick their FP as target #1? Leo's changed your mind about them being a short term or a long term threat. Would it not be better to take that out? Also, It could not be rebuilt like the FP. (I do not know where it was built, so perhaps it is too far away for an assult).
Other targets of opportunity - they have the collosus (a major wonder) and the Pyramids in Parthe IIRC. Major targets of opportunity, and on the coast. What would the loss of these wonders represent to them?
Withdrawal - OK, you get in, you burn it down, now what? You go on a rampage of distruction til the forces are destroyed, or do you bring the troops home?
Your plan calls for landing of 21+/- units directly on the shore. I forget, but doesn't PTW allow you to found a city inside the cultural boundry of another civ? If so, it might be worth wild to bring along a settler for defense. Also, instead of all fast movers, why not bring along 2-3 defenders to head off any immediate thread by any of their offensive units in the area. First thing I would do if I saw that force landing is change production and build whatever I could. So you may find yourself defending agains 2-5 fast movers from nearby cities that switched from markets to units to kill our arse.
I am not opposed to the plan, but ask that it be justified relative to other targets and that it be analized as to possible ways of defeat.

I think this is a better plan than waiting for the 200 calvary to land at 4 locations simultanously then wondering why we lost.
Besides at least with this plan we'll get to fight on their turf threatening their cities before they'll get their chance to do it to us.

Repasted from above...
I would really think that their FP is. It gives them the greater long-term potential as well as SHIELD production. If we can cut down GWT's MFG then that's a huge effect - we will be superior in production and with CGN and CFC's help with gold (along with our own superior economy) we can counter-act them having Leo's.
The thing about hitting Leo's is it's location - Flammburg.
Flammburg is in the EXACT center of GWT's empire. It can't be easily approached from any angle and the one that's least difficult - from the east - is at least 2 turns away from any landing site... more if GWT has a unit on a specific tile. It is close to the front, and the front-line Ansar are only a couple turns away. The obvious danger there is losing our entire force before they're able to do anything. And like I said above, I don't even think Leo's itself is more valuable than their FP. Cutting their MFG and usable income by such a large amount really drops the potential effects of Leo's (as well as screwing up a lot of other things for them).

Part of the plan was to include at least 1 Settler. Due to the rules only a single tile of culture would be stolen (AFTER Ruhrpott is razed) but it would give us a road tile as well as the ability to shuffle units in and out of the LZ much quicker (since units can move right away instead of losing a turn when moving through cities).
You (or anyone else) can help test the different situations based upon the simulation I posted above (a link to it is in the first post near the bottom).

I nice idea. A few questions. First, we are assuming GWT does not have any units guarding the coast. If they have a unit in the right spot we will not be able to unload that turn. The next turn GWT can start lining the coast with units and we will have a hard time unloading our forces.
Second, if we attack it will give them war happiness, and lessen any crimp on their production that war weariness causes to them from the GCN war.

No, you can only see units in the city, not within the city's radius also.
quote: I do have a question Re: this plan. Can't you just disembark a couple of defenders and a settler, and if they survive build a city and move the knights in? That way, you hide the strength of the invasion force. Problem is of course that you need to make sure you have enough defenders with you so the settler survives. |
This is true and should be considered, but as you said, the issue is in ensuring that our defending force survives. The main problem is that if they wipe out the Settler-Defender force is wiped out we're SOL, whereas if they attack our Knight landing force then we lose some units but keep the beachead and the opportunity to hit Ruhrpott.

Good idea.
We have been resting too long without action as it is - we should pester our enemies, not fester on our land mass.
Much longer without action and this team could become another RP Team - sit still too long, get all wrapped up with grand economic plans, and then get b*tchslapped. |
Hey, If you'll recall, I tryed to get us (RP) set up much sooner than we actually did, but Togas and the team where too afraid of an immediate ND invasion at that time. SO, a LOT of effort went to building up our Armies (but mostly in slow movers) and not in getting our land settled and our production/Infrastructure up and running (and not to mention another adventure...). IMHO, things would have very muck likely had been different, if our team hadn't paniced, like they had done. I was one of a few (IIRC) that was trying to get our selves set up, productuon wise, with more than one cities building settlers (like We have done here), but could not convince Togas and the team (until very much later) that we needed to get our lands settled and infrastructure up for production. I had just finally changed his mind (and the teams mind) and gotten some new cities up when the war had started (and I had also taken over the MoI job here).
And just like to point out, this effort will likely NOT be possible, without our Super-REX(tm) effort over the last several turns.
I can say this, it will not be cheap....

I propose landing all of the Vet Knights and the defenders, with the settler. If GWT attacks, they will only hit the vet units. This should definately insure that we survive to the next turn.
Then, we build the city, bring the Elites in on another boat and they can immediately attack. THis way, they don;t get damaged in a possible GWT pre-emptive attack on our stack and will be full streight
Now, this might seem wasteful, but I've been running some of this sim (that Trip had posted), with a relatively stiff defence in Ruhrpott. I have 3 Muskets (forted), 2 Pike (forted), 2 MI's (forted), 3 Cats, 6 Ansar (unforted, assuming just upgraded in Rhurpott) and 3 Horse (also Unforted, assuming no movement to upgrade). One thing I've found, is that it;s better to first lead with Vet Knights to get the cats out of the way and go against the Muskets. This leaves the Elite open to gettingbetter chances against the Pikes/MI and for a Leader.
