Neve Al
Sergeant Quinn kicked the door down, dove in, and rolled to the side. It's dark in there, except for the lights coming in through the windows. He could clearly see several dark shapes huddling there, keeping their heads down to avoid the return fire.
"Too late," he thought, and fired a couple short bursts from his submachine gun. Several screams indicated that the bullets found targets.
One of the dark shapes seemed took out an automatic rifle and fired at the dimly lit doorway. Nobody was there.
"Ground zero!" He heard a warning in his earpiece. Quickly, he covered his eyes. Just a second later, a flash grenade went off and there were even more screams. Then there were footsteps and sounds of people rushing in.
"Nobody move!" Somebody yelled. "Put your hands on top of your head and stand up slowly."
"Don't shoot!" One of the dark shapes pleaded.
Neve Al, outside an unremarkable, yet heavily guarded building
"Well?" inquired Maria Tagaki. It's completely dark there, with the moon as the only light source around.
"I don't see anybody guarding outside. I think they are all scared." answered Janet Yao, the team's scout.
"Of course, they are all blinded." quipped Susan Thomas over the earpiece.
"Well, lets hit them."
"They've got a whole platoon in there!"
"A whole platoon of blind men," corrected Maria. "Let's go." She paused for a second before giving the command.
Seconds later, an explosion ripped through the back wall on the ground floor of the building, knocking out a large hole. Sporadic gunfire could be heard coming from the inside, mingled by screams of people getting shot.
Maria saw Heather gave an all clear signal, and nodded. Heather pushed a bottom on a remote control, and another explosion knocked the front door clear off the hinges. Maria's team, moved as one person, swifty surged through the smoke into the building.
It's almost pitch black inside, but there were several candles lit. Through her night goggles Maria could see an enemy soldier, frightened, crouched next to a wooden crate, with his rifle clutched closely to his body. She tumbled over, grabbed his rifle with both hands before he realised what's going on, and flipped him to the floor. "Give up," she commanded.
Neve Al, port facilities, temporary command centre
Colonel Rolando looked at the map and laughed. "Back to good old paper maps, eh? What happened to the tactical displays we have?"
An aide responded, "Sorry sir, the technicians are setting them up now."
"Nevermind," he smiled, "Progress report."
"Yes sir. The assault is unexpectedly successful even during the early hours. The defenders seem to be shocked by the intensity of the opening salvos just as we hoped. Of course, a strategic surprise gave us all the edge we needed.
The Azanis are engaging the FCL garrison on all fronts. Our troops have been able to cut through the hastily formed defense lines, compressing the enemy into a number of isolated pockets.
We now have support from attack and transport helos, and we have seized most of the vital locations."
"Casualties?"
"Very light. The information that the locals gave us provided invaluable."
"By the way, inform all of them not to bunch up in stupid columns when driving around in a city. Who was that? Was he a dropout of the academy? That certainly went against our tactical doctrines."
There's a knock on the door.
"Come."
Maria Tagaki entered and saluted smartly, "Team Aquamarine had seized another FCL supply depot and turned it over to your boys."
"Thank you major. We can always rely on our Alpha Teams."
Tagaki flashed a smile before turning around and leaving the room.
Neve Al, FCL HQ
The telephone rang.
"I thought you said it was cut?"
"Sir..."
"Answer it."
The operator picked up the phone and listened. He looked surprised.
"Sir, it's Colonel Grey of Nooslandian 3rd Light Infantry Division. He wishes to speak to you."
FCL's Colonel Bergman hesitated a second before getting the handset.
"Bergman speaking."
"Hello colonel. I am Colonel Grey of Noosland's 3rd Light. I would like to call upon you to throw down your weapons, because your situation is, frankly, hopeless. Further resistence would just send more of your subordinates to their needless deaths. If you surrender, all of you will be treated humanely.
"What do you think?"

Auldonnina Central . Military HQ.....
The satellite images were dispalyed on large plasma screens fixed to all 4 walls. In the centre of the room was a long table with 14 chairs around it. Sitting in each chair was the chief of sections of the Auldonina Military and Political command.
The President sat at the head of the table.
On his right sat the Defence Chief and to his left was the Chief of CONTROL, down the right side sat the Air Chief Marshall of the Airforce, The Admiral of the Navy, Marshall of the Engineer/Labour Department, Scretary of the Interior, and the Forgien Minister.
Down the left were , the Chief Field Marshall of the Army, Secretary of Special Ops, Prime Minister of Auldonina, Prime Minister of Grecodonia and finally the Head of Security.
They met regulary at least 3 times a day although not all always attended, except for the nightly meeting which was compulsory.
Here they planned the operations of Auldonina world wide, here they made decisions that affected billions.
Today thoguh was differnet, all plans were operational and today was a party. It was the Presidents 85th birthday. So today whilst they could still monitor the Azan situation on the Plasma screens, they mainly drank and ate.
As the party wore on an Email popped up simultanously on all the computer screens , one in fornt of each leader. One by one they all read it and then turned to the PResident.
The Head of Security spoke for all of them...
"Sir we must act on this immediatly."
The PResident shook his head to clear the alcohol induced fog and then smiled.
"Yes , send your boys down to collect him......"

Jonchastan Broadcasting Cooperative
Special Report
More than 50,000 volunteers from Jonchastan's Free Azan Brigades arrived in New Aurora today to join in the struggle to liberate Azan.
The Free Azan Brigades were formed earlier this month in Jeongyeon City by refugees from Azan and Frankychanland. They elected Tal Elon, a well-respected former colonel in the old Republic of Azan's army, as their general.
"This is a great moment for the Azani and Frankychanlandian communities of Jonchastan." said General Elon, "It would be the easiest thing in the world for us to remain here, safe and complacent. When the war is over, I am sure many of us will return to the new lives we've build here in Jonchastan. But Azan and Frankychanland will always have a place in our hearts. We cannot abandon the land of our fathers in this hour of need."
Kimo Kainoa, a career soldier from Kaimuki, FCL, was elected as the force's second-in-command. Lt. General Kainoa was quick to praise the integrated nature of the Brigades, and predicted they would play a pivotal role in the liberation efforts.
"Us guys is ohana, no matter Frankychanlanian or Azani. Some guys, you know, they like talk stink about Frankychanlan. But that no us. The government, they the ones causing trouble. So us guys, we going give 'em!"
There was no word from the Coordinating Congress of the Guard and Militia Councils as to where the Brigades would be deployed. In a prepared statement, however, the CoCo did note that the Free Azan Brigades would operate as part of the Jonchastani command, and that General Elon would report to General Yoon Hana.

Aboard heavy crusier Paris Commune, somewhere in FCL waters
Fleet Captain Alice Yung was satisfied with the progress so far. Since the blockade had begun, Battlegroup Thelon had seized tons of ammunitions, impounded a few oil tankers, and sank a few FCL warships running the blockade.
"Eagle 1," the early warning plane flying up there, had detected a couple of vessels moving inbound, and she had dispatched a small squadron to investigate.
Blip! A window popped up on the comm console.
"Sir, " Captain Valov of the destroyer Leningrad said, "a couple of military transports are attempting to run the blockade. We have tried to signal them but they refused to acknowledge."
"Take any and all actions you deem appropiate, captain." Yung replied.
"Yes sir," Valov replied. Then the window disappeared.
This wasn't so bad, she thought. As long as the Cerooans were holding their end, FCL would not have anything to fight with, soon.

After consultations with their allies, the Karakans, static for some time, were on the move again. Bolstered by the arrival of the 5th Mechanized Infantry and the Kyralian Highlanders, and flush with confidence after the battle for Roshem, a sizable force was pushing up the road towards After.
Colonel Suzuki was not accompanying them, and could not stop thinking about it. By report, the forces in After were numerous and well-armed. But his men would be supported by long-range missiles fired from the three destroyers just off Roshem harbor. A special unit with expertise in pinpointing targets was accompanying his infantrymen.
Besides, by the time shooting started, the After garrison might have been outflanked by the seaborne attack on Neve Al. And pressuring After would pressure the left flank of the Frankychanlanders in Tal Zach, with their right already sundered by the drive towards Hofesh.
Still, Suzuki couldn't help but worry a little . . .

Cerooan First Fleet, north of FCL
No Hive ships were crossing the straits any more. Naval supremecy was ensured in the northern sector. Another victory for the Cerooan Navy.
Osprey-class Fighters patrolled the skies, keeping an eye out for FCL submarines as the fleet finally moved slowly into FCL waters.
INS Endeavour led the movement, and was the first to launch a salvo of cruise missiles.
INS Endeavour, Bridge
"Captain Landeros- missiles are away, targeted at FCL central command"
"Have the Rioca, Linsey and Rydale launch too. All others to stand by."
Landeros surveyed Frankychanland from the window, the sun had not long risen and the eerie fog was starting to roll back up the hills. 'It would take about twenty minutes for the missiles to reach their target, just in time to catch FCL military leaders arriving for work, and maybe the general himself' he thought, 'Of course, the FCL AA batteries were up-and-running now- how effective would the be against cruise missiles?'
Cerooan Officers' Mess, Cerooan Landing Site, North West Azan
"Why the hell do we have to put up with those Uldi's hanging around?" Major Biggs was none to happy with the Auldoninnan force arriving at the Cerooan base camp.
"Because they are hear at the request of the Azani people too," replied General Caraway, "as long as they stay away from our port and do not cross the border, we are to cooperate"
"Sir, most of our boys have headed up into the hills, trying to make it accross to the other highway- if they do try something how are we to stop them?" came the Major's reponse.
"I'm sure they won't- the port and the harbour town are secure with the Sarali docked there, the Guardinan marines from their fleet will be landing there this afternoon."
"And if the try to cross the border?"
"We won't stop them, it's their funeral- they will be far outnumbered if they reach Franksinatra, I made it clear to the Auldoninnan General when we spoke that if he corssed the border under no circumstances will we support them"
"So you didn't tell him about all the FCL troops?"
"That's ADU intelligence boy, and that's how it will stay".

Suzuki was now in the basement of the House of Death, adopted by the Karakan soldiers as their headquarters in Roshem, staring at a huge map on the wall. "This one," the Azani shopkeeper who had provided it had said, "has enough detail for you to track the rabbits' movements!" And it almost did, with everything from rivers to chain link fences marked.
He was using it right now to track his troops' movement up the road. Not all the way to After, of course - that would be downright suicidal. But they were close enough that the Frankychanlanders would know about them. And they had found a position that hopefully would allow them to stop any sudden advances in that direction, and tighten the allied push on north-central Azan.
Soon he wouldn't have to worry about it too much any more, as General Tapia was coming in today. The 5th Mechanized was his command, after all. He would be taking charge of the attack, while Suzuki moved to more administrative duties: co-ordinating with the other commanders, overseeing logistics. Suzuki had enjoyed playing a general, but wouldn't begrudge Tapia the responsibility.

Noosland Command, Roshem
General Leo Vijinee looked around the table at the gathered technicians, analysts, planners, and everybody else who made up his "brain."
He spoke, "So, was our intelligence correct?"
"Mostly, sir," said Shubu Divi-Somba, an expert in military hardware. He said into his headset, "lights."
The lights dimmed. He tapped a few keys. Rows of laser diodes weaved an object in thin air, almost like the real thing.
"AK-47," said the general.
"Almost. It's an improved version used by the bulk of FCL grunts. An excellent choice: simple, reliable, lethal. One of their infantry divisions in a mass charge can do a number on one of ours defending in position.
"Happily, our doctrines call for avoidance of such frontal encounters."
He tapped some more keys and another rifle appeared in mid-air, side by side. It was smaller and more slender than the FCL one.
"Ours, the W-13 assault rifle. It uses a smaller calibre size, in exchange of more bullets, higher initial velocity, and a greater firing rate. Field tests show no diffences in accuracy out to a range of 80m. However, you can slap on a mini-grenade launcher on ours."
"What do you suggest, Shubu?"
"Mobility, sir, like always."
"As I thought."
