Playing the University of Planet
I had picked the only spot on the map where I could found 2 bases on turn 1, and have them both harvest from 2-1-1 squares.
2 colony pods and a scout are at: (63, 29).
I had earlier given myself CentEco as the free technology.
This is to get Forests on those river squares ASAP - having high labs in the early game is essential to getting IA.
Anyhow, there's a pod nearby.
I pop it with my scout patrol, hoping for something useful.
Inside the pod are a Nutrient Bonus and a Unity Rover.
Nut bonus on a river - I found my HQ on that square.
This will also give less inefficiency if/when I expand to the Monsoon Jungle.
I found my other base where it stands, for lack of any better place to put it.
I rearrange workers so that each base gets a 2-1-1 square.
My bases are producing:
4-1-3 + 2-1-1 University base
2-1-2 + 2-1-1 Baikonur
I select my first tech to research. Since I'm going for IndAuto and PlaNets is not available, I go for IndBase.
My Unity rover moves to a pod in fungus.
I move there with LMB, hoping to pop the pod.
I succeed (had a 1/3 chance) and in the pod I find:
A hydrology pod has tapped an underground river
Hmmm...
* Enigma_Nova runs some simulations
Yes, I can Scout Patrol Rush this dude.
I'll set my bases to produce a scout patrol each,
set Stockpile Energy in the queue,
and submit my turn.
At the start of my next turn I will have:
Scout patrols on (63, 29) , (61, 31) and (60, 32).
A Unity rover on (59, 33)
15 ECs (3 from production, 2 from stockpile).
4 nuts in Uni base, 2 nuts in Baikonur
9 tech towards Industrial Base
Posting the End Turn. Chaunk, hit END TURN and play on!

Founded Gaia’s Landing on the landing site (toyed with moving the CP off this site so that it could be forested being a low level river delta site, but opted for the early start instead.
Changed basic scout production to a former to take advantage of the first free row of minerals
Popped the adjacent pod to reveal an energy bonus tile. Moved worker to it, and set sliders at 30/10/60 to get a tech in 4 turns with 1nut, 1 mineral and 2 energy credits per turn (could have put the worker on the river tile at 6:60 to get 2/1/1, but that would have entailed moving the slider to 10/10/80 to get the 4 turn tech, and would have resulted in no minerals so that former would have taken forever to build.
Moved the second colony pod up the river and then north towards the crashlanding site – the laser technician can become its garrison unit when uncovered (ie when the Independent Scout gets there exploring). Base will found on 6:58 next turn
Next turn the Ind. Scout will pop the pod on the tile just west of him. Odds are that it’ll be a monolith (great) or 25 ec’s (good) or a tech (OK). After that he’ll head northwest into the fungus trawling for a mindworm or 2 to capture
Went into “Menu”, then “HQ” and “Change Research Goal” and selected Biogenetics as my research tech. Then Soc Psych, Secrets and Cent Empathy to play in character and go Green.

Wait a minute...
I've posted the wrong turn to the forum!
I guess this is what I did:
Play turn
Save midturn save
Pop Pod with rover
Post turn to forum
Save turn
Obviously, those last two are the wrong way around.
* Enigma_Nova slaps himself for his error
I played ahead afterwards to see if I could SPrush Yang.
The save shows the river (and a highly screwed Yang) in 2104.

Here's the original file.
3 reloads were from playing ahead to see if I could conquer Yang.
(Hey - what could I be exploring, anyway? The fully revealed map, or the 2 factions I already know the PWs of?)
I conquered him on 2 of the 3 occasions.
I'll attach my end turn.
My -real- end turn.

I've placed the turn.
Your Probe team has 1/3 of a movement point left
you didn't tell me what to do with it, so I left it there.
I'll wait for you to post your own turn, unless that's where you want the probe to be.

You'll get 2 Lab points from the unity pods,
and 4 turns * 3 techs / turn = 4 tech/turn.
Not to mention the base you're founding next turn...
Also, consider that 40/0/60 gets you the same energy to psych and labs, with 1 more energy to Economy.

A 2-1-1 has just as many minerals as a 1-1-2.

Turn played by Googlie's command.
The sliders can still be changed, as can the workers.
I guess you're going for the EG?
I suppose we can have in in-game.
I'll prolly get the Jungle (and a pop from Yang), so governorship won't be too easy to get.
Not to mention that I may get the VW, which really enhances University Growth.
Aw, heck - just try your strategy.
P.S. Sorry for making you look like a newb, googlie.

Oh blast I've refreshed the page instead of my save folder.
My turn report is gone.
-retyping-
Moved 2 scouts to (59,33).
Attacked a MW with Rover, gained a morale upgrade and 10 ECs.
Rover (at 8/10 power) moved to (57,33).
Uni base scout and Independent Scout moved to (59,33), and since the rover has prepared the square for them, both of them make it to (57,33). (!)
It looks like Yang has popped a Nutrient Bonus in the Monsoon jungle for me.
I move my scout to (63,27) to try to get the pod at (65,27), but he doesn't get there.
Setting sliders to 60/0/40 for 1 extra EC and a tech next turn,
naming the place with my units as "Overflow Ridge" in preparation for 3 units streaming down the mountainside into The Hive.

Chaunk takes my End Turn and plays on it.
The idea of posting an End Turn is that you see what's coming for you before it gets to you.
If you have to advance through the turns to see what's coming for you, you get a reload error.
When you play, the suffix should be a g - as it is still your turn (END TURN is flashing, but still your turn).
Take note of your Workers and such - I don't think any of us would stoop so low, but you never know...

Right then...
Scout completed, moves towards pod in DataDeCentral area. Probe team moves to same spot.
Founded second base, as planned. Starts work on a defensive probe - infantry probe. May be changed to a former before it's completed, might not be...
Scout attempted to go into fungus and fails.
Slider checked, still 30,0,70 is best.
Save & Exit. It's an actual end turn this time...

A few future planning notes etc.
I'm going for Doc: Flex after this, for a few probes in the water. I'll be aiming to infiltrate as many people as possible, and hopefully to ignore research to a degree. However, whilst I can easily infiltrate the ai in this manner, inflitrating Enigma and Googlie may be more difficult, as they will both know the probes are coming - so does the ai, but it does nothing about it! In either case, flex will be useful for also planting a second colony on a different island/continent. Thats why I chose that position, in a more or less central place.
Theres a lot of fungus around my start position, more than I noticed when I chose the spot... oops. It looks as if I'll need to go through the fungus for my 3rd & 4th bases, but who knows after there. Lots of formers needed.
After Doc: Flex, Eth:Calc for pop booming. I'll be hoping for an early boom, probably just to five or so, and then possibly starving specialists for a while. We'll see. Perhaps the cult will be kind enough to research that for me.

On an unrelated note, Googlie, would you mind CMNing a 1v1 between me and ChairmanSlick? The setup is in the Unfinished business thread, and looks to be a 3v3 type match. Let us know in that thread if you wouldn't mind! Thanks!

Chaunk - this may come too late to warn you.
You'll probably pop 2 pods within 3 years, right?
With 1 lab point per pod, you can get your tech in 4 on 50/0/50.

Popping pod near The Hive.
It contains a Unity rover.
A 2 Movement Point Unity rover.
It's within 2 spaces of The Hive.
The Hive's scout just popped a pod.
The Hive's scout is not in its city.
...
I have a Unit within range of an undefended enemy city!
The Hive hasn't established a second base yet.
If I take The Hive, I'll destroy the entire faction!
...
* Enigma_Nova moves the Unity Rover to The Hive
"Hi Yang. You've been promoted to Governor of University Base."
"But I already have a base - and I don't work for you!"
"Ya do now, Bitch!"
* Enigma_Nova takes The Hive
...

Punishment spheres are so inhumane.
I wish I could give him a nice cushy job as leader of University Military, but the game seems to think I'm a heartless bastard.
I'm sure that Yang's citizens will enjoy the Monsoon Jungle much more under my command.
Well, the ones that survived.
-keep playing the turn-
On (55,35) sits a Unity rover on 8/10ths power
On (52,36) sits a Unity rover on full power
I move my scout patrols to the nearest pods.
The independent to (56,32)
The uni base to (57, 35)
I intend to collect the pod at (50,22). It is better for the independent scout to be away from home, so if I go FM I won't get drones.
In honour of a victory in the jungle, I name Yang's old base site after an amazonian word for eliteness:
Pwnjoonoo bay
I pop a monolith at (65,27) and work it.
I'm getting a tech in 2 turns, so ends my turn.

Far from it.
I've had a massive stream of luck to get to that point.
First, I popped a Unity Rover on turn 1
Second, I popped a river. While not useful to my Unity Rover rush, it did encourage me to rush Yang.
Third, My unity rover was able to get across the fungus without stopping.
Fourth, I popped another Unity Rover at just the right time.
While I could still defeat Yang if that pod was a monolith (what I was counting on), I've been very lucky to make it.
Luck, as you know, cannot hold.
Observe a fact: In my simulations, ChaDawn and Mim don't found bases until 2104.
Also observe: You and Googlie combined outrank me in the powerchart.
Also observe: The Pirates are going to be out for -my- ass now.
The only thing that would seal your fate is an earthquake pod over to the Nexus, and I don't think I'm that lucky.

Popped a pod with my probe team. Worms. Great. I feel so lucky now.
Moved scout to support probe team - first 15 years he stands a good chance of defending sucessfully. If he doesn't I'm gonna ask for a restart.
Moved other scout into fungus. Meh.
