Ok, I loaded the last game Sir Ralph sent me, and got a different starting location. How about we start from scratch?
Sir Ralph, could you set up a whole new game for us? Now that we've got all the kinks worked out I imagine this will be the last request we make of you!
(By the way, I did get your email yesterday, but mine obviously did not get to you...).

Portugal starts with Alphabet and Pottery. You could do worse (IMO you cannot do any better)...

Exp and Sea.
Nice combo, less than optimal start, a UU I wouldn't likely use much on this map, but a solid set of advantages, to be sure.
Especially with all you other losers getting barbs from huts, muwahahahahahahahahaha!
It's really hard to go too far wrong with any civ if you take advantage at the right times.

Yes, another big thanks for Sir Ralph.
Beta: your move. I sent it by email; please let me know if you do not get it within the next little while.

Ok, there's something I need to bring to everyone's attention.
Playing my first turn, I mislicked one of my unit movement orders and got to see tiles that I normally would not have. I decided to go with it, because it just so happens that one of those tiles is of the Bonus-type, putting me in a much more advantageous position that I would have been had I done what I had planned to do before the misclick.
I felt bad about it then and played on, but I feel worse about it now; I do not want to jumpstart my game just because of some dumb luck.
Since we're still on the first turn, would it be so much trouble to just start over (with the same game, of course)? I would found my city right away, which is what I had planned to do in the first place. As you probably know, this would reveal more than the number of tiles I've already seen by moving, so no real harm would be done.
Of coures, if you guys want to start over with another game yet again, I'm fine with that. So sorry about this...

The way I see it, you misclicked within the game, so it's not like you cheated or anything. Hence, I don't see why you should feel bad, and why we should restart again. But of course, if you want to restart bad, then it's fine with me.

Yes, but this is not any old mistake, it's a misclick. Call me masochistic: I prefer not to accept such windfalls. As we all know, a slight advantage in the early-game (as in: Food) generates repercussions on the later-game. If this were turn 100, I would not ask for a take-back. But since it's only turn 1 and so things are at the same time critical and easy to repair, I would feel better I started as I should/would have.

Dom, sent your turn to the hotmail address I sent AU502 to a while back. If you don't see it, check the Bulk Mail folder - I've heard hotmail are not playing nicely with gmail.
Or give me another address -
I'm at tom dot rowton at gmail dot com.

I'm still not sure what the big deal is about just one turn (especially when it hinders your opponent), but then again I'm glad we're finally moving.

So everybody has had to turn at least once. I hope you enjoy your game, even though the start of some may be not the same as it was. But I assure you, nobody of you has a horrible start. Nobody has a very sweet one, either. What concerns your choice of civs, I didn't quite understand why you left all random, but since you did, take what's coming to you. I don't even know what everybody plays. I know only Dominaes civ. Beta, I get you aren't the Babs anymore? Don't be sad. At least in this game you won't be overrun. In the other, there's still a warrior running around with the label "Butcher of Babylon" .
The map is an interesting one in many ways, and there are a lot of strategical opportunities for an entertaining game. It took me to generate more than 20 maps (I think even more than 30) till I saw one worthy to work with. I made some changes and added some features, though.
