If the real thing is about to start and interest here is fading, how about making this an ordinary PBEM?

Every faction may choose someone to take over and if noone is interested for a faction, we could simply call for a replacement in "Multiplaying". No member of faction X may take over for faction Y though.

Or would this still give away too many secrets?

I would volunteer for taking Morgan, I need more practice...

Playing just a turn isn't a problem but everyone who has played quite a few turns yet has his own strategic view on the situation. Someone having played just one turn (like me) has nearly none.

And I wouldn't develop a in-depth strategy for growth etc. for my play when I won't be the only one playing and there is no discussion about strategy with the other players (we should leave that for the "real" thing).

Apart from that, I looked for a long-term solution since I doubt that smaller factions would have people just stepping in.

Every faction knows its own PW so if someone outside a faction continues the respective faction has to tell him the PW (or can PWs be altered after game start?)
