Instead of papal elcetions, why not just go straight to the hustings? 'poly's a bit of a rotten borough as it is.

A Famous Five adventure would be fun, and the style isn't too difficult to rip off er, be inspired by.

I'm not too fond of a DnD game again either. I'd like:

DC, are all abilities only one use?

Yes.

quote:
This is bad. Warlocks will be priority targets for the assassins and the group. They will die fast.

Well, they'd be a niche character in that case... a risk... but then again, I can see the problem- they're pretty much doomed to die by the assassin's sword... I'll try to think of something else equally powerful and dangerous...

quote:
If you are running another D&D based game, I think you shouldn't rely too much on the D&D abilities, esp. ones specific to Forgotten Realms. That will put those who hasn't played the game, at least for several years, at a distinct disadvantage.

??? What exactly do you mean by this... 'abilities'? Like the Bard's roguish/music spell abilities?

quote:
there should not be a limit to rogues

they are one of the 4 primary classes

there should be a limit on rangers, and sorcerors (or a combined limit on sorcerors and wizards)

Jon Miller

I took that into consideration and but left the limit at 3 and put a cap on rangers at 3.

Actually, If I do D&D next time, it's going to be in a Tower of High Sorcery, so It would be good if people over-weighted themselves with magic users.

---
And the barbarian's power now only keeps him from voting for 2 turns... not 3.

and I improved the Monk..

Monk
(Hand-to-hand fighter. The Monk disdains weapons)
[ONCE per game gains a specific hint about ANYTHING from the Gods... This is a question/answer and must be along the lines of "is X a hint?" or "what does X mean?"]
(ONCE per game the Monk can chose to stay awake for 24 hours and be immune from assassins. However, he will lose the ability to vote next turn.)
[NOTE: Only ONE Monk per group of 20]

Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about here, duke of york? ???

Hmm... so the top 2 are now:

1.) D&D
2.) Papal Elections

hmm...

If I did #2 though, I don't think we would have any special abilities, and I'd have to craft all your characters myself, instead of letting you choose...

Later today I'll scour the thread and see the numbers for each type of game and then determine which should be done

Hustings and Rotten Borough?

No, I have no idea what they mean either.

I meant have a proper election campaign, and, like the paladin was encouraged to suspect evil characters of being the killer, divide the players into political parties.

I see- well I like that Idea more than papal elections!

We can even have different powers for Labour/Communist/Socialist/Capitalist/Worker's

if someone could give me a quick rundown on what they believe should be the basic differences between some of the parties (Labour/Workers/Socialist) are quite similar- and suggest a few powers, I think I could get something up for that.

We could either do Parliamentary Elections (Britain) or Presidential Elections (America)

Dark Cloud, this is very important: do not let people choose their own political parties! You can either assign them one, and a role (candidate, running mate, campaign manager) and have a couple of neutrals (reporters), or make them the opposite side to whatever they'd usually go for in the OT. So all the CPA members would be Republicans and all the Reaganites Democrats.
This must not deteriorate into an extension of the OT political debates! rah would kill it before it even got anywhere.

Good luck.

As long as people have common sense, we can still pick our own parties. Just don't discuss them, that simple.

If we go with a political theme, let's give everyone the same power: once per game, they can poll the electorate and find out what the vote totals are that turn.

Or we could have different positions in each party. The candidate himself, advisors, PR representitives, organizers, ect... that have different abilities.

If we want to keep the abilities, anyways.

I think I'll choose the parts each person plays in the campaign: but here's a proto-development rundown of the major political parties:

(Although... I might cut the Communist Party of Apolyton...)

-
President of Apolyton

Political Parties

RED Font= Power that is secretly activated. Remember, you can still say "VOTE SENT" even if your character really can't vote that round.
BLUE font = Power that is revealed to all.

The Off-Topic Party (OTF)
(Can negate all On-Topic Alliance votes ONCE)
(Can HIDE in Off-Topic ONCE per game; saving self from killer.)

The Communist Party of Apolyton (CPA)
(Can 'share' votes and request that all players votes are revealed to him/her ONCE)

The On-Topic Alliance (OTA)
(Can negate all Off-Topic Alliance votes ONCE)
(Can HIDE in On-Topic ONCE per game; saving self from killer.)

Lurkers United (LU)
(Can negate 2 votes for self ONCE... drifting into the shadows of the fora.)

The Moderator's Party (MOD)
(Can demand the death of one poster ONCE)

The Society for the Improvement of Spam (SPAM)
(Can make own vote count twice ONCE)

I like the parties, but I think I'm with Joncha on the power front - no powers or very very simple ones.

I'll join Spam if the name of the party is changed to Society for Postcount Advanced Members. Quite ironic considering my kingly nature, especially it's recent aquisition.

Powers complicate the game unnecessarily.

I think Assassins and Mafia should number 16 players and have only one Assassin/Mafia. I'm going to play the next Mafia, since I seem to get kicked out in the first rounds here every time.

So much for the secret ballot eliminating the docpiles.
