Hey Paul, even if the initial game ended up 1-1, I should have been awarded three points for my 2-2 prediction.

While I'm addressing you anyway, I feel like pointing out that this initiative of yours is great and although I most likely won't win the contest, I really think this initiative of yours has improved my satisfaction watching the matches.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Great Match, I loved every minute of it. Attractive, offensive football, even though England was forced to defend most of the time. A pity Rooney had to leave with an injury.

Figo was absolutely furius when he was taken out

IMO, the best side won, with the penalty shoot-out an appropriate ending. The goalkeeper sure did have a lot of nerve by cashing in on his own save

In Holland the English goal would have been a foul as well, so I tend to agree with the ref on that one.

Exciting evening

I don't think anybody mentioned it, but Germany got very bad luck lust night. If you look at the re-runs, the referee missed at least two obvious penalty shots for Germany while giving a Hollywood penalty to the Czecks.

Pretty much every losing country can blame the referee for one thing or another. Russia was hurt especially bad in that regard, with the unfair expulsion of their keeper.

Yeah, but having your winning goal disallowed in the 90th minute is a lot more clear cut than other things, even penalty kicks awarded earlier in the game.

True, but it wasn't a clear cut goal, like I said before; It was on the little island but not on the big one.

I couldn't decide what team to support, so I decided to support both teams. It was a great evening!
And a great match.

In the end I'm happy portugal won.
The goal was invalid, if you start to stretch up that rule it will end no-where and the goal-keepers will never be able to do their job anymore.

The referee had a very good match. I wish we would have had him against the czechs.

Deserved to win, and should have won, are two different things. England didn’t deserve a victory, Portugal owned them in the second half, and it was only a matter of time before Portugal scored the second goal. But England did have a perfectly good goal disallowed meaning they should have clearly won the match. I watched the game on TiVo and replayed it in slow motion a good 10 times. Atrocious, atrocious, decision.

But a very entertaining game for us neutrals nevertheless.

It's not really supsrising, IMHO, that the "senior" teams are out. In this kind of competitions, many "small" teams concentreate on it, while big teams expect to win thanks to the individual talent of their players. In short, small teams have everything to win (there is little expectations on them), while big teams have everything to lose (there are huge expectations on them).

We saw this in the last World Cup, where small teams PWNed everyone else but Germany and Brazil. I wouldn't be suprised if the finals in the Euro Chmapionship was Portugal-Brazil or Greece-Czech Those are teams who go there because they have a winner attitude :

Not gonna happen, that's already the semi (assuming the Czechs defeat Denmark).

I think the real final will be the semi between Sweden/the Netherlands and Portugal. Whoever wins that wins the tourny if you ask me.
