Yes! I'll play!
Sorta, I'll follow the games but won't play.
No, where's AU 504 (single-player)?
I've had enough school. See you in the Fall.

  1. Generally GMT12 - GMT17
  2. at least 3, perhaps 10 or more sometimes
  3. Not at this stage, but probably
  4. AU mod
  5. Emperor

I've been playing PBEM now for about 2 months, so no games have yet progressed beyond the Ancient Age. Perhaps others should also state their PBEM/MP experience.

Pretty sure you didn't take JShelr's advice here, given where I saw this advertisement. (Tarzan/Jane... )

Anyways, GMT-6, gladly play. At least one per day, often 2, sometimes more if it's someone in my timezone ("fast game" we sometimes got 3-5 per day for a while, all US folks). AU mod or stock, whatever (never really messed with AU, but what the hey, i can learn), and SP? I generally play on regent, but that's because i hate losing in the early game. I could play as high as emperor and, assuming i made it past 1000 bc fine, win in the end game.

If we do play with the AU Mod, I recommend everyone who hasn't played with the AU Mod before, play a game with it, and read the list of changes. Some of the changes will had a rather large effect on your game, and strategy.

Actually, one of the goals of the AU Mod is to stay as close as possible to stock. If it feels different, we have failed.

We will definitely play some of the games with the AU Mod in this course. It's up to each pair to decide on the mod and difficuty level.

aaahhh go on then.

  1. 7:30 - 8:30 & 18:00 - 21:30 GMT.
  2. 1 in the morning, as many as possible in the evening (so 3-4 in total perhaps?).
  3. Going on holiday late June early July (not finalised yet).
  4. AU mod.
  5. Monarch preferred if we're not taking AI cities, but will do Emperor.
Bring it on

This sounds like just the sort of thing I'd go for.

  1. I'm on GMT+1 at the moment (and wonder which rock Krill's stuck on). I'll likely to be able to play from 17:00 or 19:00 GMT to 00:00 or 01:00 GMT on almost all weekdays and more like 10:00 to 01:00 on most weekends.
  2. I don't know if I'll be able to take play any turns in the morning but could easily do 3 or 4 in the evening if anyone could make the same times. On weekends, anything from 0-10 turns might be possible.

The above answers assume I'll still be in this job for more than the next week which is far from certain. If I'm unemployed, it might be many more turns. If I get another job with sensible hours it'll be the similar. If I end up in one with strange hours, it could be a long way out.

  3. 2 weeks in July. Probably from the 2nd to the 18th. That should cover the start nicely.
  4. Preferably AU mod but I'd play stock.
  5. Demigod or Emperor. Does anyone know how to get the AI to have the appropriate advantages for a scenario in PBEM?.

Tired of ads?

Some of the units in stock are just not worth it to build, the AU Mod fixes that, thus changing your strategy

Yes, I believe you set the difficulty level before specifying the scenario in the setup screen. Even though the difficulty changes to 'custom', it's really still what you set it to be. Do you have reasons to believe this doesn't work?

Nice. Count me in.

1) During week: 6:00pm - 12:00am EDT, Weekends: anytime
2) 1-2 turns/day, maybe more on weekends
3) No planned vacations atm, if I do have one it would probably be for 2-3 days at most
4) Prefer stock, but will give the AU mod a whirl if I have to
5) Demigod/Emperor, but anything is fine

This is almost exactly the setup Paddy and I did for a game, except with only 2 AIs between us on a tiny pangea. There's not much to put in a DAR, except that I started with the Aztec on a river against his Japanese and am about to gain a domnation victory going into the 400s AD.

A carefully balanced map and tribe assignment are vital, since there is no third party human to ally with against a KH, but that was probably obvious already...

Full PM-box? Change here!

Oh yeah, there's that part- we did start at opposite ends of a Pangea with the AI between us, but the manipulation of the AI has been a little heavy-handed on my part. Since it was only at Monarch, I guess that makes it an out-and-out exploit... :-/

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

In the mod, certain techs have been given dummy resources (not needed in the game) that improve their worth in the eyes of the AI. Different civs research different techs, trading between themselves, cutting the player out of the loop. effectively, tech choices are a lot more inportant, you can't get maths and trade it for every other tech known to AI.

Better to make the final list after we have at least a map designer, so we know the games are ready to start. Any list compiled now will be incomplete.

Of course, feel free to make such a list if you like.

The plan is for every pair to keep their own pace. They can read the spoilers only after they have finished their game, but every player posts in his own thread continuously, and receives feedback from neutral observers, or players who have already finished (see the first post). How's that for motivation to finish your game fast?

Hmm. Isn't that why we call it "Greenwich Mean Time", after the city in Britain?

I personally would like to convert to the simpler system of "Chicago Mean Time". Then I wouldn't have to add and subtract silly numbers from my time, and even those in New York could feel superior, ADDING one to the 'mean time' to get their own. And you euro guys could learn to add or subtract just like we've had to all of these years =D

Sir Ralph has agreed to make the map.

So far we have 13 who have registered, although not all of them fit nicely in pairs. We will wait a couple more days to see if we get more people before finalizing the matchups.
