Alexman -
Snoopy and I have discsed it in the thread a bit, and to make things a bit more streamlined, we both feel ok with switching our game to Mod, and with switching to Monarch. The reduces the competition to 2 variants, Emp. and Mon, all AU mod.

Great news! Sir Ralph has already finished the map, and I have the saves that are necessary for us to start.

The turn order is unknown to me, so who gets Greece and Rome will be random. I will send the save to the first person of each pair (see above) who PMs me with his e-mail address.

Also, make sure you have the e-mail address of your opponent, and to agree on whether or not you can attack AI cities. I would suggest following the Iron PBEM etiquette in all games, but it's up to each pair to decide, of course.

Let's have some MP fun!!!

Edit: Oh yes, I almost forgot: There is one change to both AU mod and stock versions. The Germans (in honor of the map maker) are Agricultural and Militaristic and have as a UU the Germanic Rider (3.1.2/30 available with HBR).

Yes please. They won't be turn threads, they will be DARs. Big difference.

Edit: I suggest starting a thread with the title:
AU 601: XYZ's DAR
(where XYZ is your handle)
and link to your opponent's DAR in your first post.

Having a turn thread in the PBEM forum also, might help speed up your game, however.

Should I assume that SP community will be excluded from participating?

I look forward to reading the DARs, but it will feel so empty without being able to play too

I think many of those participating are from the SP community. Since this is a MP course intended for SP regulars like most in the AU, I would like to discourage playing the SP version of this game at the expense of the MP version, so we have a good number of games to compare.

A SP version of this game will probably be released in the future, however.

so can we reach a consensus on the "attack AI cities" rule, or are we leaving it up to each pair? If the latter, this may make comparisons more difficult.

jshelr and I are playing the original proposal where you can't attack AI cities. I would prefer everyone to play that way for comparison as well, but it's ultimately up to each pair to decide.

Is there some way we can agree to have access to other DAR's at certain points? Traditionally in AU games we have 6 DAR segments - I know that is not practical when we have some 18 players, each with their own DAR. But it would be nice when we've each reached say the 40th turn to be able to "officially" go and look how others started the game out.....though of course, we should each really only look at players with the same civ as us.

Perhaps Alex, we could have a special thread for players to post when they have reached a certain designated point and invite others who have passed that point to go have a look see. Perhaps one thread for the Romans, one for the Greeks?

Or the more cumbersome and confusing way is for each of us to start a new thread once we hit that point....as in normal AU games.
