Near the end, I tried to eliminate as many people from the MOD party as I could, because I realized they were the ones who would cause the most trouble to my strategy.

The title of the first chapter, right there, it basically tells you it was someone in the LU.

only with hindsight!!!

the actual title appears to be refering to the discussion that occurs.

As with all of these Games, hindsight is a winderful thing.

Good to see the voting pattern,,, obviosuly spike and skanky decided i was killer early

how many assasins have won these games and how many lost.

and for the one that lost how were they discovered

with obscure clues and secret voting the odds are actually not as high as you would think.

probably same odds for anyone to not get any votes

Obviously, it's all about me.

I won Assassins 1.

The villagers won Assassins 2 because DarkCloud posted a coded message as a clue that I cracked.

Nuclear Master won Assassins 3, because, out of spite, DarkCloud made me the fall guy.

so without that coded clue the assasi would have won ??

seems to me then that the balance is i n favour of the assasins

I'm not sure... we may have figured it out eventually anyway, especially those of us with Forgotten Realms books laying around.

I think the balance is, on the whole, tilted towards the assassin, but only if the clues are too opaque. In the first game, I think I played it well, then got some luck at the end. Who knows what would have happened in the second game, but I think as a result of cracking the code early, the clues in the third game were definitely more difficult to follow (DarkCloud would have to verify that one, but it's my impression anyway).

I think once we get settled into the secret ballot game, the villagers will have a much better chance of finding the clues, as there is less incentive to dogpile. If you notice, piling still happens in Assassins, but it much more subtle and far less certain than in Mafia.

Yes, the Assassins are winning 2-1, but it's too soon to tell if there's a pattern yet. (it could mean 2:1 odds, but it's also possible that the games end up alternating between assassins and villagers).

They were fairly obvious if you took the time to reflect on each chapter, and as Nuclear Master pointed out- the biggest clue was the title of the first chapter!

quote:
i would like to see a game where the villagers actualy get to work out the clues, before the game ends !!!!

Compared to most mafia/assassin games, my games are LOADED with clues- just about everything is a clue or a red herring- every word, every twist of phrase matters.
if someone compiles a list of all the words/exchanges, then they could track down who it can't possibly be and who it has to be!

quote:
so without that coded clue the assasi would have won ??

RE: 2nd Assassins game-

Yes, possibly. No one had voted for Jon Miller before that round But I think that the group had already ruled out 2 of the 7-9 survivors at that point.

Joncha
quote:
The villagers won Assassins 2 because DarkCloud posted a coded message as a clue that I cracked

...and even taht was a close vote

quote:
but only if the clues are too opaque. In the first game, I think I played it well, then got some luck at the end.

But the clues for the first game weren't even related to the game. The two clues actually pointing to you that I figured out (the positioning of the marks and the Plastics=Rubber through some weird roundabout relation) weren't even real clues.
the only clues were "Jerrycan" "O" "N" "C" A" something spelling out your name...

And that's how it seems to be in most mafia/assassins games.

People think that this game is more unfair, because they don't see other people's reasons for voting for people.

the reasons for voting can be stated. People can state what clues they have found , but the votes are PMed.

I think the proof of the clues is not whether you think they are in the story , but as to whether we can find them.

I know most of the people here are reasonably intelligent people so some amngst us should find them occasionaly. But so far, I really dont think people are getting the clues. It is very hard to find a clue from a red herring or jus tthe story, until after all is revealed.

It didn't seem as though anyone was even trying with this story though.

people posted maybe 2 clues.

Imran was the only one who seemd to be making an effort.

There was no discussion.

all the voters kept their reasons to themselves.

that's why they lost this game.
Everyone was too lazy and no one tried.

There was no discussion.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

once again, all my clues were 'in game' I don't require 'outgame' knowledge like someone's avatar or someone's forum relationships with other posters

and as for lookupable knowledge [such as requiring research] I don't require that either (with the exception that in the D&D one that knowledge could have helped... but was so obsucre that I didn't expect anyone to get it )

here's all the clues again:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...998#post3116998

I don't think anyone even caught the paper link... No one even mentioned it once.

That's what leads me to think that no one really tried very hard.

I've seen people cull through mafia before for clues- no one seemed to do that in this game.

Therefore, I don't see any reason why anyone should be complaining.

People were:

A. playing their cards close to their chest (speak up, get killed remember?)

B. confused by the "clues"

pff. in the first assassin's game I spoke a lot (I was usually wrong) but I culled through the so-called 'clues' and pointed out a lot of things and didn't get killed till near the very end- and that was by the group and not by the assassin

pointing out clues actually protects you- especially if you're wrong, since the assassin wants someone to lead the others in the wrong direction.

It also makes the thread more interesting, role-playing-wise.

You amost got killed at the beginning, if you recall.

And pointing out the wrong clues more often than not gets you dead. Not from the assassin, but from the villagers. It happened to me in the last game, and it happens to ljcvetko in almost every game he plays.

and still- the hints in round 1 and round 8 were pretty leading toward the Lurker's Party- and by Round 8 only NM was still around...

Just curious WHY did people vote like they did?
(thanks to the people who already explained )

In my story, making the connections between the chapters was VERY important. Especially between Rounds 5/6 because that set up a lot of people to be 'fall guys': Zopperoni, etc.

And frankly, in round 8 I don't see why duke was suspected- he was left alone wiht Spaced Cowboy, but honestly- that only gave both of them alibis for vovan's death!

and once again, I did this twice:
quote:
Nuclear Master and GJ Ramsey found him hours later, when GJ started to wonder where their Presidential Candidate had wandered off to.

GJ and NM mentioned in the same sentence but GJ is the only one to actually DO anything implicates NM TWICE because as the killer why would he point anything out and... he is continually mentioned as silent- and so is the killer- very short of words.

True enough, that's what happened to me in the Nascar game.. But it helps everyone more than the option of keeping things secret. and makes the game more interesting.

You amost got killed at the beginning, if you recall.

You only became a prime fall-guy suspect when the other secretariat was killed.

But only one or two people mentioned paper in connection with the killer, and you would think that a secretariat would be more guilty-looking by association than a speechwriter

a lot of the story made perfect alibis for people- just like in assassins II- octavian and Spaced Cowboy COULDNT have killed anyone- and yet they received votes...

And chaunk had an alibi, and yet he received a vote or two the round after it was apparent he couldn't have done it.

It's keeping a tally list of who does what when and where that'll save you.

the games I run work a lot like the Logic Puzzles you'll find in WORD GAMES/CROSSWORDS books... I love logic puzzles

For example:
"If dan and mary and sue are going to college and dartmouth, cambridge, and norfolk are their colleges and dan can't go to dartmouth, and mary is going to cambridge, where are they all going?"
