Got spare money?

One question: do you get paid every time an ad is viewed or every time it's clicked on? If it's the first, then I wouldn't mind having Proxomitron bust just the pop-ups and not all ads, although this surely means more unwanted downloads from my side. If it's the second, then the ad-buster will be permanent for me, with or without pop-ups.

And no, I don't have any grugde against Mark or Dan. If they need support for the site, we can always find clever ways of fooling the ad companies to waste their money for Apolyton.

Tired of ads?

Dan, Markos, et al.:

To be fair, my ire — as mean-spirited and horrifying gross as its been on this thread — has been directed at those who designed the ad and at E-Bay. You and Markos are flesh-and-blood human beings and I know that. In th end, we're all one big happy human family, inhabiting this great planet known as Earth!

Tired of ads?

Holy smokes! I'm starting to believe this actually is the end of the World!!

On my office computer, I took the advice of MarkG and left the pop up-window alone, and no new windows popped up. Ok, still annoying, but could be tolerated.

Now, on my home computer, even when I leave the window alone, new ones keep popping up each time I enter a new forum or even a new thread. Horrible!!

Could somebody please be so kind and tell me which of the Explorer settings I have to alter for this madness to stop? I've tried changing "open new browser" but to no avail. I'm on Explorer 4.x at home and 5.x at the office.

Arrgghh.....

You don't seem to understand. We are YOUR customers, not theirs. I'm not going out of my way to fix YOUR problem. I've fixed mine, namely, i killed all the ads on apolyton. Now it's your problem.

Here's the answer to the problem, until something gets done about it.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

It's driving me mad! I don't mind advertising, I understand the need for it and accept it fully. I would even accept the odd pop-up if it happen once, I closed it, and that was the end of it, despite it being annoying. But the damn thing pops-up everytime one views a new-page. This is one very aggresive pop-up that is ruining the Apolyton experience for me, and others aswell. That seems clear enough. Get rid of the pop-up, or there will just be less people to advertise too. It really is that simple.

Thanks connor for the link. Pop up adds are bull****. Why does ebay even need to advertise? Its one of the most popular webpages, pretty much everyone knows about it. If this proxomitron really works I don't think I'll ever uninstall it.

This is so pathetic, I don't mind the banners if they just sit there. But if they start poping up, or if they're some java applet that slows down my browser, then all it is doing is PISSING me off. It's going to drive me away. these advertisers are the core of dumbasses. Trying to scare everyone away from the company, trying to get everyone to hate them. Screw Ebay's advertisements.
And screw all the advertisers who keep advertising the same old damn thing. It's even worse when its boring info, etc.

Why don't we all just sent an email or petition to get rid of this annoying popup crap? It's going to kill Apolyton. And i'm pretty sure gamestats doesn't want that. I wonder why its so hard for companies to understand that things that are annoying drive people away!? (not directed at gamestats)

I would say that most people here are turning a mouse into an elephant, so to speak. This is not a big problem. Yes, there is a popup. But:
1. It pops up behind your active screen.
2. And if you don't close it, no new ones will pop up (at least, they don't on my screen).

No big deal

Let me go ahead and click on one of the ad banners now, even though it doesn't interest me in the least , simply because I support this site, and I don't want it to shut down anytime soon.

Perhaps if those who want no adds send cheques to Mark and Dan it will replace the advertising revernue.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Hydey makes a good point here. I am sure willing to pay instead of being harrassed by these pop-up's (assuming that no good free alternatives are available). Better businessmodel anyway.

At the other hand. A wise marketing guy (at gamestead? I understand Mark cann't help it, although he could at least complain to this marketing guy ) would not accept a banner supplier to deliver pop-up windows. It will kill his site one time or another. Sure I will go and look for an alternative if this continues.

Lets straight things up!

Moving a web site to another web hosting company would be a painfull procedure. As I have understand from the whole conversation here as long as ACS is hosted on GameStats some banners will comes from them and not from Apolyton. One of these I guess is this popup window. I don't have any problem with the banners. They are usefull and I click on them quit often. Some intersting things are advertised indeed. But having a popup window is the worst kind of advertisement. It seems that this kind of advertisement has come from TV where they "popup" advertising spots all the time.
The thing is that Mark and Dan have to send an email if they already haven't to the Gamestats and inform them that surfers are seriously annoyed and against the popup windows. And the complaints from day to day are incrising. This popup might indeed enforce some gamers to go to other related web sites and this shouldn't happened. ACS is the best and must remain the best.

Time will show...

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Ok, I am going to state some facts that are true as far as my usage of Apolyton goes:

fact #1 - the E-Bay pop up ad pops up ON TOP of the Apolyton window, in spite of the myth that others have said it pops up behind it

fact #2 - the E-Baby window pops up repeatedly, although not consistently, when you're navigating back and forth, in spite of the myth that some people have said all you have to do is keep it open or mininmized to prevent it from coming up again

fact #3 - this pop up window ad does nothing but harm customer relations with Apolyton, and if Apolyton doesn't see the reasoning or the logic in that, or just doesn't give a s**t - oh well

fact #4 - Ugo is the one who can place what ever piece of s**t it wants on here, no matter how much it antagonizes customers, yet Apolyton will not approach Ugo on this matter

I have never seen it appearing in front of Apolyton's web page.
If I won't close it it won't appear twise or more.

I guess that has someting to do with the browser you use, its version or the settings.
But even this way it's annoying.

Yes I aware of the hard times. BUT, one of the reasons for the hard times is that more and more people are getting tired of "IN YOUR FACE" adds and popups and are getting iritated enough to use blockers or just ignoring them. So while companies are getting more flamboyant to attract attention, the result is really the opposite. And even worse, even the non annoying ads are getting ignored as a resulte. The ad people are cooking their own goose.

I would like to see you get as much ad revenue as possible to reward you for all the fantastic work on this site and to cover expenses. I'd hate to see the Advertisers kill it using desperation tactics.

I too am considering a blocker even though i'm a big supporter of multiple banner adds. Not yet, but I'm getting closer to being pushed over the edge. Acutally other sites are a bigger problem than this one.

They had better get a clue quickly before the trend that has started ends in disaster.
