A late comer to Deus Ex Remove this text

Only jsut for a copy of this recently and find it to be the best game of its type i have ever played, so much freedom in the story line makes for re play value.

i would definatly add this to my top 5 fav games from the PC and in my top 10 games of all time

never played thief.. is that a similar game to deus ex? eg multi ways of solving problems and missions .

i always hated the games that made you have to do exactly as the game wanted to complete a level.

It is a great game, and does have replay value, though it wont be much different from one game to the next.

If you like this I always recommend another old game with a similarly immersive plot, and that's System Shock 2. Word on the street has it you can even get that for free at a site I wont mention for my own safety.

Almost? I honestly think Deus Ex (the original one) is the best game in that genre.

IMO Thief and Deus Ex are different subgenres of FPS, both of which have relatively few games in them.

Realistic is pretty unforgiving. You can't take many hits, and you have to take out the enemies slowly and safely.

Heh. I know a few people who have done realistic level using only a knife and no upgrades to their skills. They didn't even let themselves use medikits.

they obviosuly too clever to be playing games if they can survive all those missions without a single medkit

the rea ltricky bit is to get through with out a single death... well maybe just one death.... the old tranq darts and the prod wil lbe the main weopons..

I never managed to get out of the prison cell after New York - well i got out but had a very short life afterwards.

Always found that very frustrating as i think i'm missing a very large part of the game. Up until that point i was really enjoying it.

There is some replay value in that you can make different decisions at various points although i've not really got far enough to see their impact. So for me the main replay was choosing different weapons and skills.

I'm very obviously not a knife and no medikit person

I haven't played the whole game yet, but what I've played was excellent!

As my one-year exile from Sweden is about to end, I'll soon be firing up my desktop and Deus Ex again! *drool*

I also have Thief, but haven't installed it yet. Heard lots of good stuff about it...

It's a while since i played (an excuse to reinstall and start again) but i kept getting killed by the guards after getting out of the cell. Couldn't sneak past but only had a knife or something which wasn't enough to fight them off and then more arrive anyway - maybe i have to finish off the lone guard quicker ?

I seem to recall that you take down the lone guard while the other one is distracted... then take his weapon... use his weapon to take down the other guard while avoiding the camera to the left.

Once the guards are down, you sneak out of there, making sure the camera doesn't catch you... from there, you either use the grate in the floor to travel around in one direction toward the labs or you (preferably) head around the other direction to get your EQUIPMENT being held past the room with the military bots (sneaking highly recommended over fighting...).

You'll figure it out.

Better yet, get through without hurting anyone. So no tranq darts and prod either . It's possible, except for Anna Navarra and Howard Strong.

Do you mean the guard right outside the cell? I only recall there being one, and he isn't hard to take out if you can get him from behind.

If you mean the guards in the robotic maintenance bay - don't even bother trying to fight. Just sneak as far as you can across the place, then, when you're spotted, run for the exit. Find a door to the armoury that the bots aren't watching, hack the panel, kill the guard inside, then grin evilly as you retrieve all of your confiscated equipment, plus a few extras. Then go to town on the facility.

That depends on difficulty level if I recall correctly. I could be wrong about that, of course.

Bingo. First get your equipment, THEN fight your captors. Fighting them before retreving your equipment is probably a bad idea...

Really? I was sure that the only thing the difficulty level affected was the amount of damage you could take before dying. Guess I'll have to check when I get up to that bit on Realistic.
