Well, duh, you're a commie. Most of the rest of the world is capitalist, too, though... |
There are different tones of capitalism. So far, you are the only rich country (per capita wise) to allow such an immense misery on your territory, and even worse, that finds it perfectly normal - the American dream that everybody is responsible for himself has been twisted into now considering "welfare" as a political swear word
It has not to do with the theoritical aspect of my political beliefs, but with a gut feeling: that a country as amazingly rich as yours could give a decent living to the poor. Sweden is a capitalist country, yet I consider its social model way better than anything having existed so far, simply because they don't let anybody to die in the gutter, now that they can afford it.
Besides, I'm not saying all other rich countries are flawless about it. With the same notation, curent France would barely deserve more than 4. Maybe 5.

That's basically the definition of the word, and nothing special regardless. |
The fact you're a superpower is quite special in my opinion. You're the only one right now. So I find it pretty normal that you take some flak about it.

Which is of course why people like Michael Moore don't exist... what really seperates us from all past powers is that we do have a large segment of our population at least willing, or more than willing to question our self-righteousness (oftentimes, whether such questions are justified or not). |
I don't really think so. Michael Moore and others oppose the leadership, they oppose the methods. But I have yet to see somebody who opposes the idea that the US has it all to make the world a better place, a place that looks more like it, and a place where the US bears the vision of the future.
I think the US is stongly suffering from the "white man's burden" syndrome we Europeans had a century ago. And very few seem to oppose both the "burden" and the superpower-status (they go together)
But indeed, the US is probably the least terrible victim of the "White man's burden" sickness. 1çth century's Britain and France both deserve a sound 1, for lack of a worse mark in this poll.

Spiffor somewhere you wrote that the US was the most "kind" of superpowers. I cant be arsed to go back and see where i dont read all this BS, but I wanted to put forth a proposition.
By what measure to you count this? Because let's say the Romans (which you mentioned) never murdered millions of people directly and indirectly.
So if you count kindness by the number of people murdered I think the US tops the bill as the most brutal power to ever smear the face of this earth and now doubt it will be continued to be thought of as such...
So I think you made a mistake there.
