So much for the "Fort Boston" that I've been hearing about.

I took the Subway from outside Boston into Boston Commons today for class at Emerson...I saw a grand total of ONE police officer, and he was standing in front of the building in which I was having class. I had a huge-ass bag that could've had anything in it and wasn't stopped once.

Makes me slightly worried to go in the rest of the week.

Gore's speech was pretty decent. It was the usual fire up the crowd rhetoric, but he delivered it with a good amount of fire & energy, I thought.

I'd say that it was a mediocre speech. Not enough passion (granted, he's not a young guy), and way too long. Certainly better than Mikulski's speech, but not as good as Gore's speech.

Because they want to be taken seriously among their peers. Protest suggests weakness, lack of discipline, fanatacism, a penchant for mob behavior, anti-intellectualism, and can be a real hinderance to one's political future. Do you honestly think that Kerry wouldn't make his whole Vietnam Veterans Against the War thing disappear right now if he could do so? Notice how he will be heavily spotlighting his comrades in arms (in Vietnam) at the convention, while I doubt that any of the loonies he was hanging out with from the V.V.A.W. will be on hand.

Contrary to popular belief protest rarely has much impact these days politically. I haven't noticed much positive impact since the Civil Rights era, with the Vietnam War protests being far less effective at the time than they have been reported to have been more recently. Failed protest movements? Nuclear freeze, Animal Rights, hundreds if not thousands of environmental issues, anti-globalization, anti-GM, anti-Iraq war etc. ad nauseum.

Gore was great. If he had spoken with such energy and passion during his campaign...*sigh* His self-deprecating humor was pretty good.

Carter's speech was good, but his delivery was hampered by his age. He'll be 81 soon, so I can cut him some slack.

But good lord, some of these congresspeople are terrible! Tammy Baldwin, ever hear of trying to give a convincing delivery?

Congresswoman Tubbs (something) had a horrible delivery as well. You wonder how these people beat others to get to Congress with the lack of charisma they had.

Though Representative Menendez was pretty good.
