Democratic Convention Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Are y'all going to watch any of it?

The speakers that I'm going to make an effort to watch are Obama, Edwards, Kerry, (Bill) Clinton, Dean, Sharpton, Sweeney, and Richardson.

I have to wonder, though, if the convention's going to give Kerry any bounce. I mean, how many undecideds or leaners are actually going to watch the convention?

The Clintons are going to speak tonight (as well as Gore, Carter, and others).

This'll be the first convention that I'm going to watch a significant portion of.

Tired of ads?

I'm not going to watch it, but these conventions do have some impact.

If Kerry doesn't get a substantial bump, he should be disappointed. They're spending a fortune on it, after all. And if he can't move anybody with several days of free prime time advertising, then what good are the tens of millions of dollars he has on hand? The race would come down to how much he is spending on get out the vote drives.

To hear some rising starts in the party that I haven't heard much of before (Obama, Richardson), hear some interesting speeches (Edwards, Clinton, Sharpton), and to hear the agenda for the campaign and the party (Kerry, Dean).

This is no normal campaign. I'd be suprised if Kerry gets a bounce of more than a few points.

I want to see Dean and Gore start screaming. Apparently, Gore will rant about the Florida election scandal again. It should be hilarious!

It's a political campaign like any other. If he only gets a few point bump, after spending tens of millions of dollars and getting hours of free advertising, his candidacy is dead in the water.

A week of Reagan worship didn't do much. A week of (mostly good) Edwards coverage didn't do much. I'd say that the numbers are going to move five points, max. And even then, I doubt the bounce would be all that permanent.

THis is just a bunch of Bush Bashers in one place who have no platform, no strategy, and no chance in hell of accomplishing any 'cept making Kerry talk out of both sides of his face...

Yeah, I'm gonna watch it. Should be the funniest reality show of the season!!!

I hear they wanted to call it Big Caucus... but Kerry couldn't stop laughing, and it made his wife blush.

I heard quite the opposite. The main theme was to NOT bash Bush, but more of a "getting to know Kerry" convention.

Anyway, what time do the Clintons speak?

It's a little odd that a candidate still has to define himself this late in the game.

Kerry's has defined himself so often, he probably has to figure out which definition he wants to actually use.

No it's not. This is how it always works.

That's why there are convention bounces for challengers in the first place.

Conventions were so much more interesting when they actually mattered for more than a temporary boost in ratings.

I wonder if there are any conservative demonstrators..how comes conservatives really never make use of the protest, one of the most effecitve tools of democracy?

Marching orders from Kerry campaign is to reign in the Bush bashing for the convention. We'll see how much discipline the Party faithful will have. It will be a test of Kerry leadership.

Ramo is correct there will likely be very little bounce as the amount of undecideds appear to be rather small for this season.

Wrt protestors, interesting that the area for the protestors appears to be akin to a prison camp with chain link fences and razor wire.

The GOP will have protestors in Boston the last I heard. I think Republicans are coming to the realization that protesting works wonders and are using it more often.

Wow, it only took more than 40 years for them to get it- and with all those ties to the one group of conservative demonstrators I forgot about, the pro-life people, you would think they would be more active.

That week in NYC will be very interesting....

Well it isn't like the public view of the protestor was a good one. The protestor was seen as the hippy or radical who wanted to question authority. Conservatives, traditionally, even under Democrat Presidents aren't ones to question authority. It is only recently that Republicans have become more radical/reactionary.

Although, I preferred it when the Democrats had a monopoly on all the whackos. Mind you they still have the bulk of them.
