Well the debates are better for that. Too many people tune out the conventions anyway and they are more often something for the party faithful and news junkies.

After all, the historic basis for a convention was to decide who should be nominated for President and to hammer out a platform. With the primary process, we have gone away from that.

Ok -- I had time to watch ten minutes of the convention at a little before 7:00 tonight (Tuesday).

I thought it was moving that a group of Amerindians (which tribe?) sang our anthem in their own language.



But now I'm scratching my head when I found out that Ron Reagan will be speaking later tonight. I realize the reason is that he wants to advocate for his family's position on stem cell research, but is he also a Democrat??

Ron Reagan is actually a pretty hardcore liberal, although he's apparently just going to be talking about stem cell research tonight. According to reports, he wouldn't be speaking tonight unless his mother gave her approval to him doing so though.

Daschle, Gep were nothing all that special (Gep's was better though). So was Napolitano.

Dean's speech was great. Most emotionally powerful. Yay Texas and yay the democratic wing of the Democratic Party!

Obama's coming up now, this ought to be good.

A state senator (or Repuke party chair of my county... I can't remember which) named Ken Dillard... or "Kent" Dillard is going to run. There was talk of Mike Ditka but he said no. AFAIK, this Dillard guy is going to run. But he's polling like 32% to Obama's 57%.

I think at this point its pretty much going to be a sacrificial lamb if anyone. Basicly all the good candidates have already declined, and given how effective Obama seems to be at public speaking, I'm not sure the Republicans would have had a chance in any case. Frankly Obama may be the best public speaker in politics today.

I was under the impression that my great aunt (er widow of my great uncle or thereabouts) would be speaking on thursday. Either I was mistaken or she's been bumped or she's too insignificant to mention, ie, just introducing someone else. Those ex-senators are just a dime a dozen there.

(actually I'm glad, she's not a great public speaker and gained office through on her....ahem...deceased husbands coattails)
