Wiglaf, I am going to assume you are working at being stupid, for the purpose of trolling. Otherwise I will be forced to assume you got your surgery at lobotomies-r-us.
First, by mentioning John McCain, anyone who has followed Republican primaries would realize that I consider myself a moderate Republican. Yes, Virginuia, long long ago there were moderate Republicans. They may deserve an endagered species listing, but nevertheless we still exist. I still cannot believe that if I want a balanced budget I am voting Democratic. It's just WRONG.
The points about pork-barrel spending are very succinct, well stated, and I don't need to repeat them. But I will state something I have commented before, to the howls of many conservatives here. I am not taxed enough. Not for the military, infrastructure, educational, and social security expenditures we as voters claim we want. We either need to reign in those expenditures, reign in our own local politicians pork barrell spending (but that helps MY community), or face the fact that the budget deficits will make those cuts anyway, and on a draconian level, in the future.
The neocons brilliance was realizing that the voters and congress would be spoiled brats and happily run up deficits for my little girl to still be paying off in 40 years. What they stupidly assume is that they can starve all of government except the military (look at British military history in the 20th century). My biggest issue with my wife paying 52% taxes was that at that same time the neocons were whining that 19% was too high for the capital gains tax. I am almost ready for a truly flat rate tax except it'll never happen, it will only be flat rate for regular taxpayers, those with lobbyists will get exceptions. Good night, and now I will have to figure out how to use the ignore features which I have never bothered with before. Life is too short.
