It's not healthy to carry around 30% of your body as dead weight. It strains your muscles, it strains your cirulatory and respiratory systems, it strains your joints.

It's good for a fat person to be active etc. Makes up for a lot. But if they were active and thin they'd be a hell of a lot better off.

Put an end to popups!

Reminds me of something I read on the Onion
A note for lazy readers: read the last paragraph, that's the funny part!

quote:
CHICAGO, IL. In spite of billions of dollars spent and decades of research, scientists at the University of Chicago said Monday that the scientific community is no closer to finding a cure for the potentially fatal disease of obesity.

"The obesity epidemic in this country has public-health authorities panicking, and with good reason," said Dr. Seong-Hun Kim, a research associate at the university's department of neurobiology, pharmacology, and physiology. "According to the latest government statistics, 30.6 percent of the adult population and 16.5 percent of children under 19 are obese. As researchers, we feel the same sort of helplessness that many victims of obesity feel."

"Basically, the clock continues to tick as we search for that golden key that will give every American a chance at a healthy, normal life," Kim added.

Many obesity sufferers have expressed frustration over the medical community's inability to cure them.

"I came down with obesity two years after I got married," 41-year-old Oklahoma City resident Fran Torley said. "I know it was hard for my husband to watch me suffer from this disease. When he caught obesity a year later, he got so depressed, he couldn't do anything but sit on the couch. Some days, we sit and watch television from dawn till dusk, hoping for news of a breakthrough."

I'm just a hair under 6'0" (5'11.75") and I started at 277. I platued in February (started cheating a lot) and I haven't been able to break 251 since then, bouncing up and down. But I've been sticking to the diet and I was 250.8 today, and I haven't eaten that much. We'll see tomorrow morning.

Good job on the loss so far

Good luck on further progress too.

I know I'm lucky to never have had to worry about my weight. I don't know whether it's acquired or genetic, but I tend to get full very quickly and go long stretches without eating or feeling hungry.

I'm also worried about adult-onset diabetes (all four of my mother's brothers have/had it)

Before you ask, the one that had it died about 7-8 years ago...

They are all very large men. Close to (or more than) 300 lbs each.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I'd hoped to inherit my father's metabolism, and while I was young, everyone thought I had. I could put away food like it was going out of style. Alas, I inherited my mother's metabolism, and started gaining weight when I hit 21. The last fifty were the worst. That's when all sorts of nasty things ame along, like my asthma got worse, my snoring got worse, my joints started hurting, and of course, most embaressingly of all, man boobs.

I really can't stand it anymore. My weight loss, however, is noticable already, so I'm kinda happy about that. I've had to cinch in my belts and my watch.

I worry about diabetes as well.

I just recently lost 50 pounds. I am very light now. 135 pounds. I still worry about adult diabetes. I still don't excersize very much. I hate excersize. Except for hiking every now and then.

I do get a lot of walking done at work. I burn a ton of calories at work. But I don't get much of an aerobic workout.

I like playing sports for exercise (racquetball especially).

I also like running (I've finally gotten back into running regularly)

I generally run 2-3 miles every second day. My times are starting to get more respectable (still above 20 on the goddamn 3 miles though)

I'm on the fat side and I don't give a **** what people think. I like beer more than I like being buff. I could do with losing a few pounds, but I don't see any point in wanting to be a Baywatch extra.

You are shitting me, right?

At my worst beer blasting self I would have been about 250-255, right now I'm just under 240 and I think I ought to lose another ten to fifteen. I'm 6'2'' and have normal cholesterol levels.

I checked out my ideal weight v height and it says 85kgs. Who the hell are they kidding. 95 sounds more like me (I'm just big: like a lot of NZers I tend to be quite a bit bigger in frame than most other Torontonians - I used to sell clothes back in NZ and our sizes go quite a way past the norm here). I could do with losing about 10 kgs.
