Obesity runs on both my mother's and father's side (my uncles on my mother's side are all over 300 lbs and my aunts on my father's side are mostly ridiculously overweight).

I'm 5'11.5 and weigh 155 lbs. My brother is my height and weighs 130 lbs. My sister is 5'6 and weighs 120 lbs

obesity runs on my mom's side. And I was 50 pounds overweight at one point.

I did lose the weight. But it does involve a great deal of self-discipline. Not something everyone has. I don't blame people for lacking discipline. It's another one of those genetic traits. Some people have it, others don't.

There's a genetic link to conditions that can cause obesity, such as unusually slow metabolisms or thyroid conditions.

It goes the other way as well. My wife eats a phenomenal amount, and never gains an ounce. Anything below 3000 calories daily and she loses weight.

That loose phrasing I could agree with - we all inherit a desire to overeat.

We don't inherit a tendency to obesity, though.
