I hear he uses the country's oil production money for education and food and social welfare. The company that exploits the oil is state owned and that's why he's been thrown mud in some western media. Luckily he has the cubans on his side and protect him from any attempts of a coup d'etat by the bourgeois parties of venezuela and the US.
His mottos are national independence and autonomy etc.
Very cool.

I should add that I've danced with a venezuelan girl once and it was very exciting because she kept doing those swirls and twists and turns with her body and oh man.

I don't know if that's going to make such a difference. They have to get an equal +1 number of votes to remove him from office, and he got at least 56% of the vote in the election. While the bourgeoisie of Venezuela hate the guy, he's extremely popular among the lower classes, and they happen to make up the vast majority of Venezuela's population.
I expect that the opposition will cry foul if they don't win, and maybe attempt another coup. If they do, expect them to try and kill him this time, since leaving him alive last time was a mistake. If he's alive, he can be freed and restored.

Chavez is going to win the referendum, review etc.
You can come back here one week from now and tell me: Paiktis, you were right again.
And I will not say anything.

Well, it's nice to see Americans talking about this like its some kind of a joke, I'm venezuelan and oppositor of Chavez, and so far on the 6 years under his rule, poverty went from 20% to 60%, more than 5,000 industries have closed their doors leaving 6,000,000 people without a job (my father incluided). 6,000,000 unemployed in a country of 25,000,000 habitants!!!!.
With the current oil prices we should be swiming in money, but NOOOOO, all the money goes to his pockets and to Cuba. He is not popular, he is a populist: he manipulates the lower class to his favor, he supports the colombian guerrilla and drug cartels in south america.
With his speech, he has divided the venezuelan society, even families are ripped appart. No one can escape this reality, it's impossible to be neutral, your are with chavez or against him.
He uses the National Guard against oppositors (when the constitution strictly forbbidens to do that unless there is a National Emergency), one time, the NG dropped tear gas in a hospital where injured oppositors where, is that democracy???
I'm supposing that all the comments where some kind of a joke, if not, man... you should really read the newspapers before making that class of comments. Im writing this 6 hours before the referendum starts and my hands are shaking, I was watching TV this afternoon and I saw a declaration of some Fanatics of Chavez saying that they will not accept the results if Chavez loses and they will protect "his president" with violence.
Well, this thread is old so I don't expect any replies.
