What is the best sequel you have ever played? (Reviews you read don't count)

Probably not what you had in mind, Zero... I guess it's the best expansion I ever played - Brood War.

Best sequel for a console... mmm Final Fantasy 2 (American) really blew away Final Fantasy for me. Final Fantasy 3 (American, is it the one with Locke, Terra, Mog, etc?) were even better. After that.... I wasn't too happy.

I hate to be this harsh, but how many times were you dropped on the head as a child?

Original X-Com: Goes down in gaming history as an awesome game; prolongued contact could probably save you from a range of nasty diseases as well as helping to save your immortal soul.

I agree with Arnelos. XCom sequels got steadily worse as they went along. Apocalypse was passable, albeit unfinished, but the rest were either regurgitated and buggy or just... I'll stop here to prevent myself from destroying my keyboard.

I'll also agree with my previous statement. GTA 3 and Vice City both improved on the already great GTA1, adding significant improvements - not the least of which were different view-points.

Baldur's Gate 2, by actually managing to be even better than BG1.

You can't beat that for a great sequel to a great game

Sensible World of Soccer.

Took an already wonderful game, and just made it even better. And if you chose to start your career in the lower divisions then they added a challenge to the game too, which had perhaps been lacking from the earlier games (if you'd played them as often as I had ).

Wow, I remember playing that for endless days with my brother. We'd play a whole league season. I was always better at managing the team, and he was better at contolling the game, so it was always a close thing at the end of the season. It was fun to play in the Icelandic second division and so on

Curse Of Monkey Island!!!!!

Managed to take the funniest game I've ever played (The Secret Of Monkey Island) and do it even better. If I hadn't played it, I wouldn't have thought it possible.

Age of Empires 2. Took AoE, that was already a great change to RTS, added great new feautures while staying faithful to original, great all-around .

See, this is why we need some real qualifier. Age of Empire 2 is a good sequel when it's compared to it's predeccesor, but when when you compaire it to games that are actually good you can't call it a "best" of anything.

Well, I guess I can. AoE1 (and, by extension, AoE2) are some of the best games I've played. There are games I like more (like Civ), but I think that Civ2 wasn't as much an improvement over Civ1 as AoE2 over AoE1, for instance.
