I really am game. I'd go in for 20$ on this Monday (can't do it until then because my gf's in town).

If not then then Wednesday would be good too.

EDIT: sorry about crapping out last time guys. It wasn't my choice.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Hell, think of it as wealth redistribution. I make ~22k per annum being grad student/TA/RA (including summer income). Most of these people make more, I'm sure.

Plus my extended family has enough people with gambling problems that I feel justified in being the one person with some sense who can make a little back of what they lose.

This is great. 8 months ago I'd played poker maybe twice and had never played hold 'em (had never even heard of it)

After 1 day a week with my friends for 8 months I'm reasonably certain of my ability to consistently win a significant amount of money online every time I choose to play. God bless an innate ability to do combinatorics and the discipline to put this into action.

Hold em sucks, Omaha hi-lo is fun. In fact, I'm heading right now to poker room com to play Omaha. If you can, look me up on the $100-200 tables if they're open. If not, I'll be on a smaller table...

I have no urge to ever play poker for that much money.

And no-limit hold 'em is the most skillful of all poker games.

I haven't figured out how to play no limit yet (not very well at least)

I'll stick to limit online for now.

Put an end to popups!

I look for the tables with the highest percentage of players who see the flop.

If I find a ten person table where 85% of players are willing to call at least a blind then I know it's a tree ripe for plucking.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

KH you remind me of me. I paid a significant portion of my college expenses playing poker. Of course I had to do it the old fashioned way, playing with people face to face. That's a little harder, as they get to know your style and avoid you if you don't put a lot of effort into being pleasant.

I might check out the 0.5-1 tables and see if there's any more skill present there. If not then I can double the speed at which I take money.

Actually. Pocket Ace losing out to an AK story is ALL TOO COMMON. Its the poker version of "My tank lost to spearmen" story. The memory of the loss just sticks out so damn well.

Besides AK is one hell of a versatile card. Especially if its suited? Mmm Mmm Mmm...

As for never fold on pocket Ace? Depends on the situation. In this case it was all in on pre flop so I do feel u, You did everything that you were supposed to do. But Pocket Ace isnt God mode... Most inexperienced ones make that mistake.

You need to learn to drop them good hands. That comes with discipline.

You dont slow play pocket ace. Terrible Idea. When your clearly in the lead with a high pair you don't wanna give free flops. Risking all the players with possible flush/straight hands to continue?Thats just dumb.

I have my own devastating poker loss story.

My J10 loses toQ10 .

Flop comes 10,J,Q, 10 on 4th street and 7 on river.

That stupid Queen on the flop! Cant believe I was fighting a higher full house on 4th street. I thought I had the guy all baited for a straight possibility...

THIS IS ****ING BULLSHIT!

So I play again tonight, $100 buy in. I'm playing OK, fairly tight, but winning some money. I drop a little bit on a few bad calls, but start bringing it back up - I double up a couple times, and I'm feeling good.

A guy on my right, who is on an incredible rush, puts in a $40 BLIND raise. BLIND. I look at my cards, and I have QQ. I'm thinking that this guy just lost $40. I reraise all in, another $150 or so. I figure either I pick up the $40, or he calls me and loses with his bullshit.

He calls me BLIND. Doesn't look at his cards. I flip up my cards. He looks at my queens for a second, shrugs, then flips up his cards. His cards just so happen to be ****ING KINGS. I know he wasn't cheating - he wasn't dealing. He ****ing played almost a $200 preflop bet BLIND, and flipped up the main hand.

Obviously, I got no help with the next five cards. I'm ****ing pissed to the point where I'm done playing for a while. It's not that I'm playing badly, it's just a load of ****ing ****.

Pocket aces are unbelievably dominant Pocket aces against AK suited are about 6-1. I'd much rather have 6-7 suited than A-K suited against aces. Then I'm a 71-29 dog instead of 6-1.

If I see 4 flush cards or the 4 inner cards of a straight on the board I'll drop my aces every time unless I have a great read on the guy.

Are you insane? If you're playing against good players and you start raising like a madman preflop they will fold in a heartbeat and you'll have taken the blinds with aces. If you do this you deserve to be shot. A moderate raise with some loose players who will call it is okay.

quote:

No, what's dumb is not realising that poker is about winning money, not hands. Using your method against decent players will get you 5 times the big blind (against a moderately loose table) every time. Slowplaying a bit (if you've got 2 of 3 cards on the flop suited I agree with taking a slightly more aggressive stance) might get me 50 times the big blind once every 4 hands. I've got you destroyed in money even if you've got me beat on number of hands won. With aces you want to get as much money into the pot as possible, not knock people out of it. Every bet they call is paying you. The best place to do this is if some nice face cards hit the flop. If you're up first it's best to check so that somebody else is betting into you with their strong queens or something.

If you're playing against rank amateurs then you can bet hard and bet early since they'll call anything.

I'll take the risk of somebody rivering a flush on me every time if it means that they'll pay out. It's a strategy that will make you money in the long run, even if it causes you heartbreak once in a while.

Most sage poker advice I have ever heard: "You can't bluff a bad player"

2nd best (internet poker only): "You never know when pocket aces are coming, but you also never know when you'll have to take a ****. Always keep a bucket next to the computer, that way you'll never miss the aces."

Tired of ads?

I'm averaging about 20-25$ an hour. Might try playing during the day more. The night crew seems to be more aware/more experienced. The 0.5-1$ tables are slightly less stupid but you can occasionally find some that are full of morons and take them for some huge pots.
