Get a bigger avatar today!

I'm up 500 now. Had a good run so far today (100 in 2 hrs). Am taking a break right now because I feel like I'm going to flop a set every hand. I've snuck in on the big blind, flopped a pair to match one of my two hole cards and then filled up on the turn or the river 3 times in two hours.

I feel like Midas.

Am playing the 0.5-1$ tables btw. The players are slightly better but they also don't get scared off as easily when I hit a monster hand and bet hard at them. I can also occasionally bluff them, unlike the guys at the .25-.5 tables

a) 20$US an hour tax free isn't good money? How much are you making after taxes at your new job, Ben?

b) Working hard? I'd just be playing Doom III if I wasn't doing this. It's just as fun and earns me cash.

c) Can't work here by law (other than my real job)

After Taxes?

I have a rather large barrier to reach before I start paying taxes, due to the fact that I'm still a student, and I get to claim several deductions that other people would not.

I'm not making as much as you are at this point, but the difference is surprisingly little.

Once I make 12K, I'll prolly have to start paying taxes, and then, I'll just start dumping it into my RRSPs, or give it away.

Better than giving it to the government.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I have never made 27$CAN per hour after taxes in my life, BTW. On a 40 hour work week that would be ~54000$CAN per annum after taxes. On a real job you'd have to make at least 85k to pull that much in after the taxman got done with you....

the only real downside is the potential for loss which if youre really good isnt that big of an issue. on the other hand I have lost quite a bit of money playing because im not really that good at poker. I love the game, do very well in home games but online its another matter.

I'm not really really good. I am, however, probably faster at doing probabilities in my head than even really good poker players. I also have some insight into how stupid peoples' minds work.

A really good player would take me to the cleaners without breaking a sweat, though.

I'm so ****ing pissed off right now. You'r supposed to flop a set once every eight or so times that you hold pocket pairs, right? Had 25+ pocket pairs. Did not hit a single set. I'm so ****ing annoyed right now.

I also only hit 1 flush draw out of the 20 or so that I flopped. I can't believe this ****.

Coins are supposed to come up heads once every two times, too. But you can still flip tails 12 times in a row. Poker odds, just like any other statistics dealing with randomness, rely on the LONG TERM. Solid, consistent play will beat anyone who relies on "getting lucky", no matter how lucky they get, if you play long enough.

Just made it up. Had a set of twos on the flop. All ten players had stayed in on a raised preflop so there was 10$ already in there. Unfortunately the flop was also 3 diamonds, and with that many players I was sure somebody had flopped a flush. Luckily I knew that all I had to do was pair the board or hit a 4th 2, which adds up to 7 outs out of 47 cards left. The guy immediately after me bets (0.5$) and everybody calls him. This makes my day. There's 15$ in the pot already and I'm being asked to call a 0.5$ raise for a 7/47 chance of winning (I was fairly confident that nobody else had a set at this point). The turn card comes a 3 (no help) and the same thing repeats. Raise 1$, there's 25$ in the pot when I have to call and now I have 10 outs out of 46. So I obviously call. River comes another 3 and guess what: it's a diamond. There's 4 diamonds on the board, half the people there have flushes and I'm sitting on the most unassuming possible full house. Needless to say I wrecked them and took a 40$ pot.
