That's it! I'm done with this crap. I decided to stop smoking. Cold turkey.. I won't have any aides. I've smoked quite a long time.. I have never even tried to quit, or made the decision, so I feel confident I will success in this.

Smoking Too expensive anyway, and bad for your health. Quite controversial anyway, me shouting about people should live healthy, trying to eat correctly and work out a lot, not drinking so much alcohol either, but then smoking.... but that's the end of it!

Anyone else who wants to join?

I joined this weekend...I promised my mother I wouldn't smoke anymore if she quit. So far we've both kept our promises...

EDIT: Both of us had the condition that when drunk it's ok to break that promise...

I was a smoker for 11 years, but I quit smoking exactly 2 weeks ago.
Well, I really did, I didn't smoke for entire 3 full days.
It was a real hell.
Face it Pekka, you can't quit, no one can.

I'm at the point now where I would really like to give it up. It's starting to take its toll on my lungs and my throat. But... it's hard. I smoke 25 a day now, it's a big part of my life. I'll think about it if we're a couple of guys who could do it together.

I've tried before to quit, no luck. Heck I've puffed and hissed through these damned things for 25 years now. That's probably longer than any of you have walked this earth.

But it's tempting to actually attempt it with you guys. We could post here when it got too tough and seek support from one-another. Give me until tomorrow...

Well I have a good motivator, because my friend who started the same time as me, hell we started together with the first ones, he quit last winter, and he never smokde again. He's been really strong, and he says he don't even think about it, and when other people smoke it only makes him happy because he's so strong he could quit rather than 'damn it I want to smoke one too!'.

It's the first two weeks that are the toughest. After that's it plain sailing, well not really, it's different from person to person. The biggest risk after that is you'll get tempted at some party or after a good meal. Most people I've talked to say the yearning for a cigarette never leaves you completely. But those first two weeks are Hell.

Ok if you really want to quit, you should stop drinking too (at least a couple of months, I guess). You can't drink and do not smoke at the same time. Are you ready for such sacrifice?

I don't drink so that would be okay. Of course I'm not completely abstinent, but it's very rare that I drink. I don't like getting drunk, not sure what that makes me...

Ok, I'll go on a limb here and say that I'll join you, Pekka and Emp. Fabulous, at midnight tonight, CET. I'll try once again to quit smoking, but it won't be cold turkey, I'll have the aid of the nicotine patches I already have in stock (the big ones ).

I hope we can all get through this together, but you should know I'm probably one of the most hardcore smokers you'll ever come across, so it won't be easy...
