Well, The Astros are 7-8 against St. Loius and have a better pitching staff. They also have a better record against the Cubs if the Cubs didn't have bias in their favor.

What a turn-around. I watched the first game in a bar with a bunch of Sox fans. Gee, that was fun.

But the next two days were bliss.

The annoying thing is that it should have been a sweep.

well, at least we beat mariano rivera for the second time this year. we've figured out how to beat him. he even lost his cool the second time he blew it, and that was a two run lead.

As I said... they first have to make the playoffs. There are mulitple teams ahead of them at the moment.

They have a much harder job just getting to the playoffs than all the teams that are already pretty much in it

Watching Mariano lose that game was irritating, but it was clear from the get-go that he didn't have his command. The Sox did a good job getting to him, but if he'd be "on" they wouldn't have. They got to Mo on a bad day for him. Still counts, mind you, but I wouldn't be so sure that the Sox "know how to beat him" now. Feel free if you want, since that will only increase the pain later...

It is interesting to see how a team does with RISP and how much it prevents them, but like RISP more for entertainment value than telling anything important. League average for RISP has been shown to be very close to BA to be insignificant. Any differences teams show in those numbers are the results of luck and natural statistical variations.

Over the course of his contract, I'd expect some ups & downs RISP. He's been bad this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he tears it up next year.

Crazy comeback win for the Sox last night. Mazilli is a fool for taking BJ Ryan out, though. Sure, he got into trouble, but then he got two outs (McCarty popout, Damon strikeout) and was lookin' good. He brings in Julio and *boom*

Nice to see Foulke have problems, though.
