I can't believe some people actually think the Red Sox are going to beat out the Yankees.

in 1976, the red sox had a 14 game lead over the yanks in july - they lost it all, including the final six games of the season vs. the yanks. they then lost the one game playoff series on Bucky Dent's homer over the monster. this was known as the boston massacre. if boston had won just one of the final 6 games vs. the yanks, they woulda won the division.

Well...Boston is leading the series this year, 8-5. We're only back 2.5 game, and have another 6 to play against the Yanks, not to mention we're playing better and they're playing worse than earlier this year. It is conceivable.

But history is against the Sox...but then, isn't it always?

the problem was dave roberts not taking 2nd on defensive indifference in the 9th. that would have eliminated the double play, woulda moved him to third and woulda had manny up, with ortiz and millar to follow.

that and the fact that we got phantom tagged again. its always those 2nd basemen who seem to do it.
