another possibility might be to use seawater to power steam generators on the island for various power needs, and recapture the desalinated water from those operations. Gotta make everything we can pull double duty.

Actually, I'm thinking we should try and cozy up to them. Offer to take those surviving heinous capitalist pig-dogs in their ranks off their hands. They can pay us a modest fee to deport them to Liberty...then, they don't have to worry about them corrupting the flock, and we get more able bodied, hard working men and women as citizens of the island.

As I mentioned earlier...sadly, it is not possible for a fully functioning free market system to come into being with one wave from a magic wand, and even if it were, said wand would be a tool, which we have been denied.

There is a certain amount of groundwork needed to support the market system, and until that infrastructure is in place and operational, it makes no sense to attempt to kickstart the market, only to watch it crash and burn.

Thus, until said infrastructure is prepared, SOME provisional system must be put into place.

That's just common sense and good planning.

I don't care what else you call it, the point is, it's temporary, transitory, and a stepping stone for something bigger and better.

Yes...I know I'm an amazingly talented man, who's part of an amazingly talented group, but c'mon....this thread's barely been alive 24 hours, and I've only made two days worth of journal entries. In all, we've managed to put six huts together, go fishing, and bottle some water (and build a windmill that doesn't work yet).

I guess that means that, despite all our vast talent, we're just not quite up to commie expectations that we don't have a fully functioning market after two days.

EDIT: Oh, and for the record...the key difference is...the state don't own the huts. I do. If I choose to let folks stay over at my house and don't charge them rent (a thing which happens all the time by the way), that don't mean that I'm communist. It means I'm a human being.

Before we can proceed much farther, LoA brings up an excellent point that we need an established, democratically elected leadership FOR Liberty Island, and to that end, we got two nominees for the spot, and no seconds for those nominations.

Vel - that merchant family I mentioned realises that here is something worth encouraging . It takes Tube under its protection , and provides transport for him to Liberty Island so that he can smuggle in whatever the island needs .

I am the head of that family . Am I allowed to come ? My political connections in the food city of Kiditopia will help me smuggle in skilled professionals , and even tools , if the need be .

Just say the word , and I will come , leaving my business to the commies . I know they won't handle it any better than they did the last one . It will also be a demonstration of the power of a free market where the rights of the individual to trade are respected . The chip crisis will teach them one of many lessons they are to learn .

I repeat - am I allowed to come ?

And if so , what do you want - note that there are limits to what even I can arrange . I can , however , arrange for a lifetime supply of potato chips in any flavour you ask . Are you game ?

I can also arrange for a rudimentary currency printer (which I sell permanently to the government , on the condition that they give me capital for any venture I might state , and also give me a generous income (negotiable) ) .

The availability of capital can really speed up your fledgeling economy - though I'm afraid inflation might be a problem .
