The Forum Game Times - Week 3, 2005
Ireland announces the subsidization of beer. Immigration to the nation triples. Oh, and something about vaccines too.
China announces that there has been a significant increase in flu deaths over the winter season. New policies for flu treatment have been initiated, and study into the reason for the spike has begun. Japan is now giving tests to every person travelling from China.
Cuba has no money. It can't build a damn wall all the way around itself. Fidweld Castro must've lost his mind. Anyways, after making that announcement, the US stepped in and SECRETLY told Cuba to back off.
The USA has said it will give $50B of tightly monitored food and educational aid to Syria in return for the drop of its WOMD program.
quote: Russia issues statement that all corperations must pay their workers all wages due within 1 year |
Corporations give tremendous protest to statement. Anyways, some of them go ahead and do so, and inflation triples. The rest are filing various suits or making threats to leave Russia if such an antibusiness environment will be created.
quote: President Kassiopeia of the Republic of Finland thinks that the new disease is a very, very bad thing and tells his aides to issue a statement to tell everyone how distraught he is, etc. |
Everyone scratches their head. There has been no new disease discovered, just a spike in flu fatalities. Unless Finland knows something we don't....
Americans have taken full control of Baghdad, at the price of many dozens of soldiers' lives and possibly a thousand Iraqi civilians. In Afghanistan, Some Guy Looks Into the News reports that 90% of Afghans still have no standard education or healthcare. Everyone gets mad but no one really does anything.

Massive crowding in Ireland. A hundred thousand new immigrants and mostly tourists have appeared out of nowhere, looking for lodging and booze, while productivity falls because everyone is out getting drunk. The economy swings downward except beer companies, which are busy buying fleets of expensive cars for Irish government employees.
The Saddam Hussein trial saga continues this week, as Saddam interrupts a witness's testimony to say "yeah, but Kim Jong Il, that cocksucker, y'all ain't got no idea what he's going to do. I worship that guy, he is like the King of Evil."
Scientists from the World Health Organization confirm that the sharp upturn in flu deaths appears to be, based on preliminary evidence, a fast-spreading strain of influenza that originated from Beijing several months ago. Oddly, the strain shows signs of laboratory modification, but maybe WHO did that without noticing.
Deaths from the strain now mount to the thousands in Beijing and other Chinese cities. All infected people must be quarantined as soon as they're confirmed, say WHO sources. And be careful where you travel.
The Russian economy falters, as the inflation rate soars and profitable companies leave Russia. President Tassadar's strange policies are blamed, but he still can show an improvement since Putin's disastrous Thanksgiving Crash, where the stock market actually became negative for a short time.
WHO secretly informs G8 national leaders that the "flu strain" in China appears to be something very, very serious, and warns them all to keep watch, as of the many thousand infected, there are only about a dozen survivors. The disease does not really match the flu enough to be called a "strain".
President Edwards made a surprise visit to Iraq to announce a new program where Iraqi-owned oil companies may compete in limited markets with those American-owned.

Ireland's downward spiral is interrupted by the sheer volume of people moving, who all need services and thus jobs are created. Unfortunately, service is poor because everyone's frigging drunk. In addition, the world community is seething at Ireland for taking well over 50% of the world's tourism, leaving little for other nations, which cannot come to the table with such a competitive package as subsidized booze.
The United States government assigns a legion of scientists to study the flu strain. Deaths in China continue to surge, and limited martial law has been declared in Beijing.
In Iraq, the rollout of limited competition goes favorably for American companies except in sales to fellow middle-eastern nations, so the program is expanded: Iraqi oil companies will now be first providers of oil to Iraqis. President Edwards recieves hell from Congress for the plan, but pledges that it is the "right thing to do."
In secret, the WHO informs the UN Security Council that "overpowering force" is an acceptable remedy for "flu strain" remedy, as it is an epidemic spreading at inconcievable proportions, and appeals that additional research is necessary to prevent whole populations from being eliminated.
The United States informs Syria it will take back its money if Syria continues to use radioactive materials for any purposes.
Last week's secret G8 WHO report was leaked by an unidentified source last week. The report identifies fatalities of the strain at about six times the officially reported rate, but the parts mentioning the strain's origin have been removed. In a possibly related incident, Norwegian scientist Almosta Sweed was found dead in his apartment. Sweed had been studying the flu strain, and the death has been ruled a suicide.
Great droves of international businesses flee Russia. Subsidies for remaining corporations barely make up the economic gap, except for the crippling inflation.
Finland brings home every gold medal in the Special Winter Olympics.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il announces to his nation "Mission accomplished." No one is quite sure why.
Secret: Communication to National Leaders
The final moment has passed. We of the Concerned Researchers Union urge you all now to extend the peace of the world for as long as possible.

Japan warns citizens to avoid travel to China, if possible. Also, Japan limits entrance visas from China to politicians and those with legitimate reasons for travel. Finally, as Godzilla has been spotted along the eastern shores, all citizens should prepare for a possible attack while the scientists charge the giant robots.
