According to Interfax, the Tu-154 sent out an emergency alert that it had been hijacked, before communications were lost. This was the plane that went down at Rostov.This information has yet to be officially confirmed; Interfax quoted an unnamed government official as its source.

My thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by these tragic events.

Apparently there is some confusion whether the emergency alert was a hijack alert or just a SOS. I guess that will be cleared up in the next couple of hours.

On Sunday there are presidential elections in Chechnya, so it could be linked to that.

They're saying that there's no "proof" of terrorism; ie, it crashed on the ground rather than exploded.

I believe that you would find no proof of terrorism in the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9/11.

They are no longer comparible crashes. The pennsylvania crash site has had its flight recorder examined and the recordings leave no serious room to doubt that the plane was hi-jacked. Niether of the recent russian plane crashes has reached this point in their investigations yet.

That's not what I was saying: I'm speaking of the specific crash, that's all, nothing to do with flight recorders, etc. There's no proof of terrorism in these just like that crash had no proof of terrorism. If you took that crash site and compared it two the other two, none of them are "proof" of terrorism.

I agree, this early in the investigation, you won't find much from the crash site.

But I'm sure they have more info one way or another. They just aren't releasing it.

What would be the point of carrying out an act of terrorism and not telling anyone about it? The 9/11 attacks were so blatant that nobody could have mistaken them for anything else. This incident however could have been either an accident or terrorism. It also could be deliberate sabotage by a disgruntled employee.
