For one I am glad the party has left someone like Zell Miller back and out- let him become another republican like all the dixiecrats did. Zell, again, is simply an angry southener too lazy to follow his fellow as they marched into the republican party.

I'm with GePap, let the Republican party bring in all the Conservatives and Moderates while the Democratic party purifies itself with extreme liberals. It should make it easier to round all the liberals up and deport them to Canada.

then how come it seems like the unofficial mouthpieces of the party, i.e., talk radio and virtually all pundits, seem to have this disdain for anything that doesn't hew to the party line?

i can't say that i particularly feel welcomed by the republican party...

(that said, i don't quite feel welcome in the democratic party, either...)

Ahnold and Rudy are moderates (given their social views)- neither have much future nationwide (Ahnold due to the constitution, Rudy for being a moderate).

Bush campaigned for Specter cause Specter dos have to go on to challenge a democrat for the seat, and a far right-winger in the ticket would make holding on to that seat come November a lot harder for the republicans. The prez. and party needed the seat in the senate more than some radical right-wing clone oh delay.

This statement demonstrates just how far left the democrats have gone. Zell is a conservative Democrat . He is still left of conservative Republicans .

Of course, to the typical leftist of this day, anyone who isn't as far left as Kerry/Edwards is an "evil conservative". This line of thinking is why the Republicans' "tent" is getting bigger and the democrats' is getting smaller.

First of all, about as many Americans call themselves democrats as republicans, and if you think the right-wing stance of the national party uts the mustard with all national rpeublicans, just look at Imran.

The fact you guys got less votes last time for president, a tiny lead in congress (which has gotten relatively smaller each time since 1996), and could not even pass the ban on gay marriage makes me more than dubious about your claims that the republicans can claim to be in touch with whatever the **** the "mainstream" is supposed to be.

Mine was a simple statement of fact- just look at the Republican Convention: we are living under great threat-only Bush can keep you safe! That was the message. A couple of mentions here or there to anything domestic, but overall, all about fear.

You fail thought to address the simple fact this country is divided evenly along partisan lines, with a big chunk of people abstanining. Claiming someonehow republicans appeal to some great majority that agrees ona set of positions and can be called "mainstream" is something rightwingers like to claim, but for which you have 0 evidence for. So one right-wing souther democrat rants about the party- the demos won special elections in Kentucky and South Dakota in congress- yup, ours is sucha liberal party we can't possibly win out in the boondocks

If you can show any HARD numbers that show there is such a thing as "a mainstream", show them. Another put up or shut up position here.

I have already said the Kerry campaign has been horribly run this last month and they let the repugs define him with their lies.
