in the other thread:
quote:
it's disgustingly ugly.

refers directly to the imac. i've established that i hate imacs.

quote:
and i was amused that you had to bump your other thread because nobody really gave that big of a **** about it.

word count: 1.
pointing out that you're a one-trick pony. nothing really about macs.

quote:
btw, how the **** is it "fully expandable"?

word count: 2.
pointing out that your initial claim about imacs, which i have established i hate, is wrong.

quote:
1. he misspells sayonara.
2. he still hasn't answered how the heck this new imac is "fully expandable".
3. putting someone who disagrees with you, however vehemently, i think is a rather cowardly act. especially since until this point i've never actually insulted him, just his inane fanboi support of apple.

1 and 3, i admit, are somewhat personal attacks. i'm sorry you feel that way.
2 is still the same: your initial claim was wrong about imacs, which i've established i hate.

quote:
because those are the people who are least capable of understanding what makes good technology good, and are blinded by style points.

only a half-sarcastic remark. however, the market and the image does bear this observation out. hipsters like apple. hipsters also tend to be the ones running to it specialists-like me-to fix things that they messed up without realizing it because they don't understand machines.

quote:
of course, to mac fanbois, nothing apple does can ever be wrong.

personal attack on you, perhaps. it's true though. you've never really said much positive about microsoft until this thread, and seem to believe that apple can do no wrong. that's a classic example of fanboism.

quote:
this is not "fully expandable". the term "fully expandable" includes the ability to add features, which does not appear to be in line for this imac either.

reiterating the allegation that your initial claim was wrong.

quote:
this is merely relaying what is an apple claim. which means that it is close to hogwash, also. not because apple is filled with liars, no i don't mean anything like that. i mean that the "most user-servicable" line is bullshit, seeing as x86 has been like that almost ever since its inception.

try again.

emphasizing that point.

====

now, this:
quote:
Ok, I read your posts in that thread. I found lots of foul language and nothing to indicate this "different" point-of-view that you've pointed out to me.

lots of foul language? that's two words. you can bet there are people with fouler language than i.
also, how is anything there inconsistent witht he worldview that i've pointed out before?
note that all of my attacks are on apple's imac or the image that they try to sell--i do not attack their g5 hardware for the powermac, i do not attack their os, i do not attack their useful contributions.

try again.

Please, I'm trying to be nice to you and just keep going on and on with these angry words. You're acting very childish.

because you couldn't be more wrong. plain and simple.

saying that i have a foul mouth, particularly when compared with other people on this board, is wrong. being misguided about my opinion by not really reading what i've written is again, wrong. refusing to answer a question that has been given to you many times by ignoring it and then saying i'm acting childing is again, wrong.

how is the new imac "fully expandable"?

3 foul words. You missed one in that last post. And there is still a lot of other language in your posts that is not cussing, but still sounds very harsh. Now don't get me wrong, I know I'm guilty of this sometimes myself, but I also know that I do need to try harder not to do this.

Hate? Disagree is a better word. There is no need to get angry if you disagree with someone or if someone clearly has made a mistake about something. That's very childish.

Well, I just skimmed over that article too quickly and didn't read it carefully. My bad.

But you know, the iMac may be still upgradeable. Apple has been known not to release some information about new products until later. For example, right now there are reports going around about hidden features of the new 4th Generation iPods that Apple has not yet revealed.

You obviously missed something here. No biggie. People do make mistakes. It's .

I do.

But his irrational hatred of the imac is a bit weird. It's a consumer level computer. Buying a Powermac would be ridiculous overkill for most people.

You can upgrade imacs if you wish. It's possible to put in a new hard drive or a better optical drive with little effort (I managed to do it without any special technical knowledge). It's even possible to get unofficial processor upgrade cards installed on the old ones - I've no doubt that the same companies will do the same for the new one. But why bother...

if the search function worked, you'd see the numerous threads where i say i love the powermac and want one.

unfortunately, you seem to think the imac is the best thing since sliced bread, and i think it's an abomination. what's worse for you is that you're wrong and can't see it.

as far as mac osx, you'll see in a lot of those threads that i point out it's stylish, slick, and that i like it. i also point out that i don't need a lot of that, and prefer simpler OSes--hence, my preference for linux most of the time. go look at the recent gentoo thread, and ask asher about how i keep telling him gentoo is the only distro really worth looking at, even if it doesn't work for him.

i tell you again, ask anybody, and i guarantee that most of the time, they'll tell you that i don't hate Apple or Macs in general.

unless you're afraid of that too.

Some Good Advice:

Q Cubed, you need to realize something. No one in this world is exactly like you and no one has the same opinions as you. Those are your opinions and opinions can never be wrong. Fact and fiction can be wrong, but opinions can never be wrong. Don't get mad at people just because you don't agree with them. Have some respect for others opinions instead. And if you can't agree with someone on something then just agree to disagree and move on. Don't hate them for it.

You are not are perfect human and no one is. We are all wrong about some things because we all make mistakes.

The world does not revolve around you or anyone and that's a fact!

Look.

I do not have and answer for that yet, Q, and there is no way I could possibly have an answer for that until either Apple says something about it or until my iMac G5 finally arrives at my home.

I thought I had the answer before, but I made a mistake and took it back.

Apple= no compatability, bad hardware support, avful interface, no warez
Linux= average compatability, average hardware support, average interface, freeware
Win=Stability issues, price(specially for corporate use), security holes, fast patching.

Grows of linux sector is a result of the fact that software is economically public good. Soon MS will need to adjust to that, maybe even by using Special Semi-Public License for Win.

Q Cubed, blah blah blah

i heard a lot of blah blah blah. You think you're teaching me something here.

i'm well aware of everything you said in there.

however, there is a plain and simple fact that cannot be denied.

computers are meant to be modular, upgradeable, and easily serviceable. they are meant to be cheap, piecemeal creations that you can take apart and put back together again with a screwdriver and common sense. a powermac you can do that with.

an imac, you can't.

therefore, imac == abomination.

it is undisputable.

you think an imac is a good thing.

therefore, you are wrong.

Full PM-box? Change here!

thin clients are different. this is why ibm's and sun's all-in-one stuff is not as awful to me--they are not designed to be full computers, just terminals.

however, gateway's and sony's all-in-one devices are abominations, much like the imac.

palmtops are not billed full-fledged computing devices ala the imac. granted, i know of things like the oqo. these are an exception.

why? palmtops, like laptops, are designed to be portable. they are designed to have input built-into the device. therefore, they are not abominations.

an imac, however, is not designed be truly portable. it still has the regular power plug, and it still requires an external input method. therefore, it is an abomination.

perhaps the imac and i got off to the wrong foot.

i'll admit, the first time i saw one, i thought it was a toy.

bright blue and green and orange casings, an ugly form factor, and those damn annoying circle mice. however, once i realized you couldn't actually do anything to them, that was when the hate started.

if they'd at least been fully expandable, maybe i wouldn't hate them so. but they aren't; therefore, they are abominations.

Not really.

MS has always been bad at patching security holes, has always tried to sit on problems until outsiders blew whistles on them. It's now worse, they are doing this monthly patch thing.

*nix has always been much faster at patching problems.

Very rarely does it make sense to replace a harddrive, unless it died.

More frequently, users decide they need more space and want to add an additional harddrive. Even simple things like this are not possible with the iMac.
