So you can play Doom 3 on your 10 year old computer? Hell, the graphics card to play that costs more than an X-Box these days.

What dimension do you live in?

PCs need to be upgraded every ~2 years if you want to play 3D games on them. Those upgrades alone are more expensive than a game console, which alone lasts ~5 years...

Your argument comes down to game selection.

$200 internet computer + $149 console is unquestionably the best gaming value.

Gaming on a PC, hardware-wise, is unquestionably far more expensive.

I've been playing a little and so far the game is decent. I have a few random observations.

I haven't been able to get my character as fat as I would like, though he is listed as obese.

It's funny that you can hit on guys, and they like it.

Graphics are nice, but not special.

The targeting system is messed up. I end up targeting allies way to often, and sometimes it just targets nothing, even though a guy is lit up red.

The left hand quick menu is equally annoying because it changes what's in it all the time, except for the four things you can bind.

Back to targeting... the game also is to stupid to realize that I didn't want to give that beer to someone else, I wanted it for me.

Speaking of beer, getting drunk is awesome. I'm only a light drinker so far (91 beers, 13 vomits in 3 hours of play) but my goal is raging alcoholic.

Demon doors are cool.

Kicking decapitated heads around rules.

Damn, does anyone care to even talk about the game?

Playing games on a computer is MORE EXPENSIVE than playing on a console. At the same time, PCs are more powerful. Anyone who says their PC is cheaper than buying a console, even brand new at $300 bucks once every 4 years, has some old POS PC that couldn't run crap. That is the bottom line.

Canuck money, of course. I'm talking about a gaming computer here, a computer that can handle Doom 3 or Half-life 2 satisfactorily.

I paid $1800 Canadian two and a half years ago for the computer I'm using right now. (that doesn't include the monitor)

And it should be able to run Doom 3, although I haven't tried.

I've found that in Fable, marrying and then killing your wife can be quite profitable and easy to do .

I am mad that you can't be fatter though. The game says I'm obese, but I don't really look it.

Yeah, it gets bad sometimes, but I haven't run into too many problems as I get farther in the game. Just don't hold the Left Shoulder button down because that turns even an ally red.

Apparently killing your wife is better for your reputation than beating her with your fists and getting divorced. Kinda funny.

I finally had to consult the Fable board at GameFAQs, because that damned Lady Grey necklace quest was pissing me off. Thankfully most of the quests are not anywhere near as frustrating.

I think I got the best bow in the game. I'm only 50% of the way through the game, maybe, but my bow already can hit for 1000 damage! It's making the game a little too easy.

I've achieved my quest to be the biggest alcoholic Fable has ever seen. After constantly drinking regardless of what I'm doing, I've become a "dipsomniac."

I've married and killed 8 chicks and 1 dude . I was pretty disappointed when I got no money for marrying the dude, but the hot sex made up fo.... uh... I mean, no . I killed him, too.

i read that apparently the last quest is pretty easy to do and many people end up finishing the game by accident. supposedly you don't want to finish the game right away because it locks out content or something. so make sure you guys have two saves at least.

btw, if you build a pc yourself you can make a good one for like ~600 usd.

My numbers are on prices for the Gaming rig are a bit old. The $200 one is accurate though. Buy them for people with a $50 commision.

If you build the computer yourself (or build it through MWave), you can save alot money vs. Dell, Falcon etc. Or at least you could, haven't done it in a while.

I beat it. My total game time was just under 20 hours. I did nearly everything that you can in the game. I had portions where I was max evil or max good. I managed to sleep with the Mayor... not easy. I killed every last person in Oakville, the bought every building and rented them all out. I got all 25 silver keys. I even got the stupid frying pan.

I can't see that there's much worth replaying, since I did everything, and I don't think 50 dollars is worth only 20 hours of gameplay total. That's why you should rent it.

There are some quests which you can only pick one option. And there are interesting choices that you can make during the game based on which alignment you want to play. Then again, if I want to roleplay a character, I wouldn't have him be max evil and max good in the same game. Unless you really want to be a 'powergamer'.

And if you played it for 20 hours, that's a normal console game length. Try most FPS games for one. IIRC, Beyond Good and Evil was similar. And I have read on the Fable forums of people playing it for 30 hours.

quote:
The game says "Dowry of 0 has been received."

Imran... I'm not sure you know what a dowry means, because as far as I know it simply means money that your wife gives you when you marry. Not only does the game refer to him as my wife at several points, but he was clearly the ***** in the relationship. I don't know what you're trying to prove, acting like I don't know some common word, but you kind of look like a jackass, especially because given its definition, you don't seem to know what it means.

As for the 20 hours thing... I wouldn't buy Beyond Good an Evil either, I'd rent it. Same with Deus Ex: Invisible War or similar single player shooters. Good multiplayer shooters with replay value I would buy though, like Unreal Tournament or Splinter Cell: PT.

quote:
From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Main Entry: dow·ry
Pronunciation: 'dau(-&)-rE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural dowries
1 archaic : DOWER 1
2 : the money, goods, or estate that a woman brings to her husband in marriage
3 : a gift of money or property by a man to or for his bride
4 : a natural talent

Mike being the other dude's bride, you'd think he should get some money.

But man, the game is cool. A friend of mine got it Friday, and we've been playing it the whole weekend instead of doing work. (I don't have an XBox... Or a TV for that matter either.) They really should port it to PC so I could play it myself.

No **** sherlock. Now explain to me how a man is a woman (wife & bride always refers to a woman no matter how a game bug refers to him). Dowry's are brought by the family of the woman to the man. That is why the man brings 0 dowry. That is why you will always recieve a 0 dowry for marrying a man. Speaking of being a jackass for not known the usage of a word...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowry

quote:
A dowry is an archaic marriage custom where the bride or her family is required to give a gift of money or valuable goods to the groom or his family. In some areas where this was practiced, the size of the necessary dowry was directly proportional to the groom's social standing, thus making it virtually impossible for lower class women to marry into upper class families. In some cases where a woman's family was too poor to afford any dowry whatsoever, she either simply was forbidden from ever marrying, or at most became a concubine to a richer man who could afford to support a large household.

The tradition of giving dowries is perhaps most well known in the country of India where it is still largely carried out despite being prohibited by law as of 1961.

The converse of a dowry is a bride price.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=bride

quote:
bride n.

A woman who is about to be married or has recently been married.

Put an end to popups!

Based on how the game is programed and based on what the game said to me when I married, it makes sense that you might be able to receive a dowry for that marriage. It still makes sense that in this marriage, my spouse or his family ought to be giving some kind of monetary contribution to me. Calling it a dowry or not is semantics... it's irrelevant.

I can't believe your need to tell me I don't know some simple word. It's ****ing obvious how I meant it, and if you weren't so nitpicky it would make perfect sense.
