If you check your statistics, it says how much time you've spent in the game. Surprisingly enough, I've spent 38 hours in the game. I'm taking my time...

I just beat it. Fun ending (played it both ways). I thought the story was actually pretty good. The reviewers' playing down of the story is actually a bit puzzling to me.

It was a bit short, but I think due to the story and the 'world' a longer game wouldn't be as feasible. Perhaps in Fable2 where you may be able to do other things (ie, more in depth towns and the sort) and have many different story arcs a longer game will work better.

For this game it was a very good length, IMO.

Yeah, I've checked, and it's a bit short. To be honest, I have no idea how anyone can spend more than 25 hours on this game. That's including everything, trying to open all the doors, get all the keys and all that. There simply isn't a whole lot to do in the game. A typical, non-insane gamer will probably do most everything in under twenty hours, and people can easily rush it in less than half that time.

The saving grace of the game is the ability to play it a few times and have fun each time. Lots of games lack this kind of replay value.

it is nice he apologized but he continues to make bullshit within the last few months if not weeks and probably will continue to do so. also the part where he claims all that features were in development but didn't make it is a lie or at least has been shown to be in the past where ex-programmers have admitted as much. i read sometimes the first time he mentions these features is to the press and the developers find out about them there first which is a big surprise for them.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

It comes out on the 8th here - i have 2 days to get in my pre-order and get a 'making of' DVD

unless they have run out of that offer in my local store.

Interesting points on the game so far by the guys here playing it(finished it more like ). Its a shame - but what the hell is wrong with games making people these days? surely they have played many of the great games and have worked out what makes them great games

Fable might well be one of my last brand-new console game purchases(i'll stick to second hand), there might be one or two more but i think i've reached the limit of 'worth playing' games on these latest generation of consoles - its been interesting to see how and where games have gone since my ZX81 days

I beat Fable in about 20 hours as well, and I did virtually all the side quests.

Fun game, but too short. I played a 100% good guy the first time through, so now I'm going to go back and be evil!

I was disappointed with some aspects:

-the targeting system for ranged weapons/magic is wonky. Switching between targets should be much easier.
-Some of the quests (like the necklace one Imran mentioned) were far too obscure to solve. Finding the silver keys is another example. The silver keys were too gimicky anyway--no explanation was given for their presence in the game.
-Okay, the arena was AWESOME--but you couldn't go back and play it again! I think a terrific feature would have been the ability to go back and battle whenever one wanted, or at least do so after you've beaten the game.
-Whisper just disappeared after the arena, too. There seemed to be a lot of dangling plot threads like that.

Overall, however, it was a fun game that had me hooked.

One terrific way to build you XP is to go back to the graveyard where the zombies spring up constantly. They're slow and easy to fight. If you use the Assassin spell that lets you blip behind them, you can rack up huge combat multipliers and XP. My record CM was 54, I think.

ok i have to come clean - i didnt get Fable after all!

I was in my local computer shop this weekend and instead walked out the store with a Gamecube+rebel AllianceIII and Zelda collectors edition(which is what clinched it for me ).
I would like to say thank you very much to all the guys here who have posted their opinions on Fable - even if a good game its just too short for my tastes, and if i'd just taken note of the hype i would have ended up disapointed, so your real views have been valuable.
I just hope any Fable2 takes itself a little more seriously.
I will probably take a look at Fable later - either rent it or wait for it to appear cheap in the pre-owned section.

I finally got my copy of Fable!

Im only about 10 hours into it

Good game, a lot of negatives, but its still fun. I'd rank it just above Sudeki, maybe a 6/10 where Morrowind would be a 8/10, and KOTOR 8.5/10.

Its sad though, Im married, twice, and I still dont know how to have sex.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Im still having a lot of fun with Fable, Id say its worth the $50. My sister and friend have characters too, its fun to watch them play and screw up so much.

My sister has way too many spells and she refuses to organize them. She says that would just confuse her now because shes so used to how theyre already organized, yet shes constantly stumbling over the controls and getting whacked in the face trying to find the slow time or berserk spells (practically the only two she uses). Shes also very spendy, she did manage to save up enough for some platemail armour and obsidian greatsword right before the arena, thanks to my mentoring.

My friend is horrible at the game period. His character is only 29 and hes so scarred that I walked out into my living room, glanced at the TV and thought he had a new facial tatoo. I asked him if I could see his tatoo on his face and boy is he ugly, it looks like a balvarine used it as a chew toy. He also has too many spells, but not so many that it confuses him (yet).

My character on the other hand is perfect! :humble:

:dig:

Well i got it as an xmas pressie, i found it for £19.99 - and for that price i'd say its a good game purchase.

Its very beutifull - you can tell alot of effort went into making it, the way trees and plants and light filter is applied.
Its a shame its pretty liniar(in the same way KOTOR is), as a greater selection of quests to follow aside from the main one(ala Morrowind), would have made this a much deeper game world experience.

I've had an issue with probably the worst slow-down i've yet seen on the xbox. And it wasn't when in a big fight as you might think.

But it resolved itself when i left the area and came back in.

My gf stopped playing it, as she was dissapointed she couldn't play as a real woman, and was getting frustrated with the targeting/magic use controls - still i think its reasonable that if your shooting at stuff with a bow, then someone walking into your arrows should take some heat, being 'good' doesnt stop a bullet i'd wager?

I agree with people saying the story is good - its as good as the one in KOTOR so far, and i'm still not able to quite see where myself, my sister and 'evil powers' pan out.

I've played about 13 hours so far, just finished the Arena this afternoon. I hardly use it, but even with mostly limiting myself to my lightning(lv3) bolts, magic combined with ranged weapons seem too powerfull.

I'm not sure that i like resurection vials either, especialy considering the ammount of health potions/food you can also collect. Without the resurection vials i would have atleast died about 3 times in this game.

sadly, i didnt get married until i was 41 years old, and you know what that also means!!!!
considering this, i'm surprised my character isn't more of a pshyco man-mountain than he is, or atleast very mixed up

oh and there is something disturbingly 'Sim'ish about the towns people and interaction/emotions etc.

And apart for one litte side quest - i've yet to find a real reason why they went to all the trouble to make me able to 'fart' my character?

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

i'm being carefull now - i think i'm near the end of the main quest, so have decided to just wander around and explore every nook and cranny.
I Ate myself Obese - it took about 50 meals of meat to do it, to get through one of those portals. I'm going to give trading a go. Try to find out where the profit margins are.

You can see that a whole lot more was planned for this game, the detail in everything tells me it was pretty much a labour of love.
Could have been a classic if it just had many more side missions to do, or a way to stop a player just running through the main quest, some kind of time delay between the stages? That would encourage people to go find other things to do.

At the momment i'm also trying to find all the ripples to fish, and all the properties to buy.
I tried to marry the lady next door to my house(and current wife!), got her a fake wedding ring - but i think you can only marry one women in each village/town, as they want a house and you only ever seem to get one property for sale in each.
Not that i'm complaining about my wife - she gets quite erm......frisky a lot of the time! i literaly have gone from 'zero to hero' in a very short space of time

I think Fable2(there's bound to be a sequel right?) will be special if you go on what is already in Fable, and if Fable2 is given the time it will need to finish all the design team set out to do.

EDIT: 15/01/05

I've been playing this for just over 26 hrs now - i find it hard to believe that anyone could have completed everything in less than 20hrs? I've got 11 silver keys, but i know there are atleast 20 - as the chest at the Guild needs 20 before it will open. And i've still got a good few Demon Gates to open. If i dont just follow the main quest i can see atleast another 10hrs for all th other little side quests and all. So its not that bad in terms of how many hours you can get out of it..............especialy in comparison with many games of today?

I'm now at 39hrs playing time - i must admit the last 10 have been a deliberate attempt to try to complete all the little side quests etc.

I've got three wives(Oakvale/Bowerstone(posh one!)/Knothole glade), and have now found 21 keys and opened the chest at the guild.
I can't explain how painfull it was to finish all the 'fishing ripples' that i've found so far, and i mean all of them. Its so sensitive now that on average it takes me between 10-15mins real time to succeed, having to re-attempt many times due to my fishing line breaking!!

I feel this game received way too harsh a critic from many people, atleast that was the impression i got when it first came out.
If i hadn't got it for xmas i probably would have not bothered, which in hindsight now would have been to my loss.

Its not the ultimate world beating rpg that was hyped about, but it has more to it than meets the eye and its up there with the KOTOR's of the xbox rpg scene imho.

Now then......do i really feel good about taking out(killing) a few villagers, just so i can then buy up their vacant houses/shops? tricky one.
The property buisness is a tough one in Albion........murderous
